"...very early 60s..."
yep, 1960, that 300 U have's grandfather came out then as a 144ci w/oil bath air cleaner and generator rather than alternater (& the 'feedback carb' U mentioned). The "falcon motor" they're called, was a challange to the vw Bug, which wuz desimatin the American auto industry. The "family" grew thru to '96, a fine run that included a 'stang for a few yrs (the 250 wuz in 'er begining '69). Sedan Delivery, 'econobox' and it's brother the van/pick up, etc, etc...
Still like to see this forum give it it's due & add "144, 170", to it's name. They WERE in "trucks".
Just bought an 1986 Ford F150 with the 300 motor, been having problems keeping it running at tip top condition but still working on advise from forum experts. Thanks for the input keep em coming. It only has 126,000
hmmmmm I haven't seen this mileage yet between me and a friend of mine we rolled the odometer in my 88 5 times, yep she had 523,000 and only reason why I got rid of it is because some a--hole ran a stop sign on a cell phone and plowed into it, but old blue was a 300-6 4 speed manual with granny gear, the only drivetrain component that was touched was the rear end she needed a bearing kit at 300k, in my opinion the 300 goes much further than any of the diesels did in my opinion
I can say that I have turned it over once in 5 years. The guy that had it before me turned it over 3 times. Who knows before that. With those turnover it is sitting at 498,000 plus. It does need work but it is still running. The plan is to get it rebuilt with tax money.
1996 F150 4x4 XLT Regular Cab Long Bed, M5OD transmission. Right at about 167,500 miles right now. I bought it in Nov. 2012 with just under 160,000 miles.
Someone on this site (maybe in this thread) posted a comment saying that a relative had pulled a 300 from an 85,000 mile truck, then proceeded to put over 550,000 miles on it after that. They said it was still running, just noisy.
Truck is all original, pretty well taken care of. Radiator is getting replaced this weekend. Needs lifter galley (pushrod cover) gasket replaced, but I'm not anxious to do it myself. Interesting thing, a previous owner had the entire truck repainted professionally. It was originally white, they had it painted an Indigo blue color that looks like a Ford color.
I put a Kenwood Excelon CD Player in, along with four Polk Audio speakers in the stock locations. I couldn't stand the crappy sound of the stock speakers and old Alpine tape deck. I also added a drop-in bedliner I found on CL for $40.
I have a better bumper to put on it, the one on it has two big rust holes right through it on either side of the license plate.
my inline 6 got 163,xxx runs strong will pull a dodge and chevy around like nobodies buisness. even saved a dodge from getting caught in a mudhole before. I am proud to say a straight 6 never let me sitting. Chevy and dodge *******s cannot compete. best engine ever made.
1995 cab'n a half reg bed, I6 and the m5od that decided that I don't select gears lol Ive got four of six digits on my odo. Memorized, close enough right?
164,8xx runs great minus the rough idle I'm thinkin the trans needs to be gone through
