Maybe there's a support group for us guys with bats in our barns/spaces. Haha
A couple years ago I put up curtains of the bird netting used for fruit trees to section off areas. I had it go from the ceiling to about 4 feet off the ground and they'd dip down and fly under them! Yikes I didn't like that so I took them down because I didn't like them flying in my airspace.
When I took a forestry class one of the bat specialists told us about smoke or fog inventions they've seen used to find holes in barns. That will be my last resort after all the trim, spray foam and screen mesh I put in.
They're not affected much by the diesel exhaust.

My barn is not going to be sealed up enough to keep bats out in the near future. It is an old 86 feet long dairy barn built in around 1878. I have replaced some exterior boards and many of the battens as well as covered over where the knots have fallen out but there is always more. A contractor friend of mine said he installed a concrete floor in a very large pole barn that had bats. Several weeks later he came back and applied some sort of coating to the concrete and the next morning there were many bats laying on the floor from the fumes of that stuff drying. Makes you wonder if they could be persuaded to leave with some sort of fogging machine as you mentioned.
Fantastic Friday Washington, Tim, Eric, Ken, Steve, Ken and all the crew and It is the Weekend Eve and almost time to Party.
Started the morning at 70°, currently 93°, full warm bright sun, light breeze and rh of 50% which is very low for us this time of year. Even as warm as it is outside the AC really hasn't ran that much today!
We got the last load of hay in the barn for this season. Now I am cleaned up, catching up on FTE, having some in the shell peanuts and enjoying life and doing my Domestic Househusband Chores and getting the laundry caught up!
Well, that last statement will take on a whole new meaning again on 27 June 2024 and 1730! I am retiring again, and I will see if I make it more than a year this time before going back to doing something.
Yep, the third time. First after 33 years as a Paramedic for a large county service - Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority, 11 years as a Manager for AutoZone, One year vacation and 3 years with the Biscuit Factory. I am drawing the first 2 retirements from day one of retirement and the last is mostly in savings! OH and lets through SS in there for the last 4 years!
I'm a real wuss when it comes to weather over 70 degrees and just hole up inside.
I've been trying to chip away on my injector replacement and stuff so I can use my truck next week to pick up fireworks. But with the temps this week I might go to plan #2.
Rod, That all sounds good, I only retired once after 30 years in the phone company. And started taking my SSI a year later at 63. So far so good, my wife and I have been building this place over the last 35 years so we have lots to keep us busy. A little too busy on outside stuff really, I don't get as much shop time as I would like, but it's all fun.
Ken, I understand about the heat, I can't I like it all that much but not much I can do about it. At least we don't have the humidity like they do in other parts of the country. I just looked at the thermometer 92° and 19% RH.
We are headed to the lake to get cooled off, catch ya all later.
Evening Tim, Ken and Eric. Yes, way too hot and humid here. This weather normally comes in the middle of July for a couple of weeks and then cools off to great weather. But this year not the story.
I put a different carb on a Husqvarna string trimmer. It acts like it needs the high-speed screw adjusted. Now I find out you need a special tool to do it! What a gimmick. What is wrong with just putting a slot in the screw so you can turn it?! Grrrr.....
Jumping in the water sounds nice Tim. Haven't done that in quite a while.
Ken, there has been a lot of hunkering down inside with the A/C going on here as well.
Good morning WA...Happy Saturday For All...another soggy day here with rain and boomers moving in this afternoon. At least it won't be as hot...high in the mid 80s. Hope MA Nature is taking good care of you!!!
Our humidity has been approaching 70% all week...the electric company is gonna love me.
Sunny Saturday morning Washington, Tim, Ken, Wayne, Eric, Steve and all the crew. Sunny, 79°, 84%rh and dropping with very little breeze. The real feal is 82° at 0930est!
But the good news is that although it will be about 96° the humidity will drop to about 50% and the index will only be about 99°. I am still not to sure if I will be doing much outside today.
It's a little cooler today and overcast or really just cloudy, 82° as of 1310 hrs. I mowed both lawns, weed wacked some stuff up by the greenhouse and then changed the blades on both mowers and changed the oil in the Honda mower. Time for another cup of coffee and then head to the shop. I'm in the middle of upgrading my 3D printer.
It's been hot & sticky down here today, had about an hour of rain this morning so it just jacked up the humidity.
I made some peoples day on Wednesday when I let them know my Visa expires on the 2nd and reminded them I was leaving anyway the 10th. I have a family reunion to go to so it's tough noogy for them. I already said if they can get it straightened out to extend my Visa I may just not come back from having to leave to reset it.
