I wish they'd stay put until dusk but they seem to take hot laps around the barn every so often and more often when it's hot out. Every year I tighten up the barn and think I've got them shut out but they always find their way back in.
It's the crap on everything and being buzzed by them is what I'm tired of! I'll be going back down there later today to keep working on my truck and chipping away on other stuff.
Hi Ken,
Bats are like little mice with wings. Maybe put up some bat houses someplace not in your way and then one of those ultra sonic pest deterrents inside the barn, maybe a couple of them depending on how big your barn is. It's just an idea, I have no idea if it would work.
Hiyas Tim! I hear you're good at finding leaks are you any good at finding where bats are getting in? Hehe
I've put up bat houses all over 2 years ago and out of the 5 houses only 3 have been found by them. I try to keep the barn a undesirable place for them to live by keeping the lights on, music blaring, those ultrasonic things going and sometimes I'll leave a diesel truck or 2 idling away for a bit.
Happy Hump Day Washington, Tim, Ken, Ken and all the crew. Looks to be another steamy day in WV at 95° and an index of 110-115°.
I lived in a house that bats nested in the attic. They made "Bat Bombs" kind like a smoke bomb and set it off in the daytime. Watched where they came out and fixed the holes! Never had them again!
I agree with the mess the bats make being a huge problem. I at one point talked to a "bat guy", about getting rid of them and he said the only solution he had for my barn would be to basically cover it in netting and that just isn't practical. so, I just grumble about them and enjoy the winter months when they don't move about.
Maybe there's a support group for us guys with bats in our barns/spaces. Haha
A couple years ago I put up curtains of the bird netting used for fruit trees to section off areas. I had it go from the ceiling to about 4 feet off the ground and they'd dip down and fly under them! Yikes I didn't like that so I took them down because I didn't like them flying in my airspace.
When I took a forestry class one of the bat specialists told us about smoke or fog inventions they've seen used to find holes in barns. That will be my last resort after all the trim, spray foam and screen mesh I put in.
ThongTastic Thursday Washington, Tim, Ken, Wayne, Steve, Ken and all the crew. We have Bats out front every evening catching bugs. I have no idea where they spend the day sleeping, but it isn't in my attic or barn.
Morning all!
I haven't fallen asleep yet with all of the weird city sounds I'm not used to. I drove up to my moms house late Wednesday to take her to a bunch of Thursday afternoon dr appts. Ugh.
Evening Washington crew. That low humidity sounds great! When we get the high humidity as we have now, we also get more flying insects. The kind that like to hover about 1-2 inches in front of you face and land in your eyes if possible.
