Quite the Thunder and Lightning storm tonight. Marble sized hail and huge rain drops. We had just gotten back from doing some sightseeing and I had parked the pickup in the upper driveway. When the hail started we got the pickup into the barn. Sound like artillery shells going off on the roof. The hail hitting the water was producing small guizers that looked like multiple rifles firing into the water. I was talking to Lynn a bit later about setting up the irrigation pump and checking out the system. He said they moved up into this area in 1995 and can't recall seeing hail like that before.
Went over to our rec house and shot some pool tonight. I'm glad we were in our own private place and not a public one. I was pretty telling that we hadn't shot any pool in a lot of years.
that looks real nice Jim! Im extremely happy for you, enjoy. I hope that after working so hard so long we get to enjoy our Eden as well. Congrats and say hi to the Warden.
Belated good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Woke up to clear blue skies and a very nice sunrise. It was around 54 and we're up to 60 now. It was a great morning to be sitting out on the front porch drinking coffee, listening to frogs and watching the geese having territorial wars over which side of the high water channels belonged to whom. Those Canadian Geese can get downright honnery and violent in their disputes. They finally flew off after a night long battle. One group flew down river and the other group flew upriver. Fortunately the house is sound proof enough you could barely hear them. The frogs on the other hand....I swear there croaking could penetrate the sound proof booth at the hearing doctors. That's the way it used to be on the old ranch and farm.

Thanks Brett. It is very nice. I guess, if we have to give up 183 years of family land, history and tradition...I can live with starting a new traditions and family lore with this. for the kids to continue a legacy with - if they so desire, and #1 son at least, can't wait to put us into the old folds home (or Underground) so he can move in! He's so excited that when they left last Sunday, they left their big air mattress and other items in the guest room so they would have stuff here on their next visit. Julie thought she was going to have to use the truck and tow chain to get him to go home and back to work!
0100 to 0400 or so visitors we had this morning.......
View out the kitchen window this morning. Certainly better than looking out the kitchen window and into the School Districts HR house 20 feet away.
Good evening Oregon and everyone everywhere else. Beautiful day today and no Light Show / hail and rain storms tonight.
Lots going on today including getting the irrigation system de-winterized and operational.
Had a pair of visitors today and one of them dropped in for lunch in the front yard down at the river.

Jim sounds like you might need more security for the new place so the kids can't kick you out.
Yep! Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson are present and providing eviction prevention services. They are backed up by Ruger, Colt and Glock. Dan Wesson is around too jusst in case we have to provide days off and vacation time.
Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 55 and mostly cloudy. Getting right back into the life style I guess. Up at the crack of dawn and working on a sprinkler head that had a blowout. Problem is, it would be a very easy fix normally but the tools I need are all back in the valley.
Have to head back to the Valley today, stopping at the farm on the way home.

Morning all, have a good week. I took it off to try and finish the siding, at least what I can do by my self. Which is 95% of it. Just the top pieces needs two people try to fit that in on a ladder is to hard with 12' pieces by yourself.
Morning all. Back to the grinder.... Finally got into a couple fish on Saturday as conditions finally aligned to produce a bite after 5 days of nothing. First fish was a nice 20lbs, something I haven't seen out there in a while. It had too many fins so it was netted and then released. Second looked like a typical hatchery cookie cutter which was lost. Oh well it was good to feel the tug. I'm not hopeful that conditions will allow much more fishing however. Algae is already present so days are numbered.
Headed to Iowa tomorrow morning, be back Wednsday night around 11, and then the long weekend starts.
Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 51.8 and overcast.
Made it back to the valley yesterday. Had to "MacGyver" the sprinkler head. For some reason the nipple had only been screwed into the supply pipe by about 3 threads or so. It broke off flush with the top of the fitting on the supply line. No tools with me for this kind of work. Used a serated steak knife, the "saw" on my Gerber Leatherman's Tool and a long shank screwdriver (I actually had found a few days earlier in the back of the buggy and some pliers I carry with a socket & wrench set in the pickup. Got the broken part cut and out of the supply pipe fitting and then used an overgrown fingernail file to smooth out the brake off end of the threads on the 6" nipple. Reassembled everything and it seems to work like new. We were worried that I'd have to shut down the irrigation system and either pay Derrick to come in and fix it or leave it off until we could get back.
Got a cell cam alert on the way back to the valley. When we stopped at Pioneer Truck Plaza for a very late lunch we looked at the pic that had been sent. Looks like our pair of honkers were very upset over something.....and then we saw why. They must have thought they were going to be lunch. I think the Eagle the Eagle must have been trying to steal lunch out of our irrigation pond.
Upset Geese on the left, and on the right low over the pond is the Bald Eagle in fish grab mode with the landing gear down.
Eagle is center over the paddle boat.
Just north of the geese and heading west. Didn't get a second alert with the Eagle scooping a goose, so I guess the geese survived.
