August 2021 Mo chapter Chat and BS Thread.
We did a show in Auburn, Minnesota on Friday, Osh Kosh, Wisconsin on Saturday, and dropped a transmission off at Bigfoot's shop today on the way home for another team. I may have another fill in show this weekend in Minnesota again. I didn't really want to drive back with EQ, so I gave him a stupid number and he just said, "I'll let you know." So now I think I have to drive back up this weekend again. ....that's monster truckin'.
See the smoke marks?
Top of the door where I tried to fill the gap with layers of fireplace seal.
The other side.
The other smoker doors. It's a double smoker trailer.
My finger in the gap with the doors mostly closed. Plenty of wiggle room.
Bottom of firebox 2 popped the weld and warped. Welding job for sure, just threw it in here.
The wal separating the two smokers is not fully welded.
So, a few issues to contend with. Have to find a welder that doesn't want $1k for a half day of work, or find someone to loan me a stick welder. I've done some welding in my time, but it aint pretty.
So we had an eventful morning. Apparently someone decided to crash through our ditch and fence last night. I followed the tracks and found the car abandoned in the back of the field, half in the dried up pond. Looks like they tried to drive through the fence back there but didn’t anticipate the drop off. The car had been stolen in Marshfield in June, from what the Highway Patrolman said. The plates that were on it were stolen from a car in Fordland. There was drug paraphernalia all over the car. A few hours later, they found the guy in the tree line next to where he ditched the car. Apparently, he hid in the trees hoping not to get caught. I guess after all the drugs wore off, he was in quite a bit of pain and couldn't move, so he started yelling for help.
The thing I'm most ticked about is he tore the radiator and oil pan off in the ditch, then drove diagonally across the middle of the field trailing coolant and oil the whole way. 'Sucker wrecked my field for two years at least. I give that hay to any cattle and they could be poisoned.

RJ I am sure you can find a FTE member with a welder or at least some welding experience that is close to you? Worse case take some of that profit and go buy a cheap ol buzz box stick welder from harbor freight or even a fairly cheap now days wire feed and have at it. Once you buy a welder, the upgrades to your smoker are endless. Like repairs, mods, upgrades. Weld on other handles, internal or external fold up/down shelves, tabs for hanging up stuff. Fix door gaps and they happen.
Bad deck on the mower...weld it. Kids bike frame broke... weld it. Broke your garden hoe...weld it. Get a 110V and use common house/shop/garage elec. Get a big 220 stick welder... now you need power for it. And most of the time that is reserved for a cloth's dryer, heat, a/c unit, stove. Not all houses have a spare 220 in the garage.

Above is MAX 3/16 and probably what your smoker is made of. Never hurts to have too much power and the ability to turn the welder down. Not enough power and you are stuck with what you got. Booger welds.
Do you not have one ol farmer dude near by with a stick welder in the garage? I am way short on free time of you could come up here and have at it. I have a 220 stick and wire feed. Gota be some one new you with one.
I am doing a car thing in Mountain Grove this weekend and need the seed money for food. Then it's looking like Cabool the next weekend and Hardenville or something the weekend after. And I am supposed to be hearing from the Mountain Grove Chamber of Commerce about another thing this fall. The lemonade/coffee stand next to me was the chamber of commerce president or whatever, and she want's me to come back. I guess it was pretty good food.

So I can probably squeeze it into the budget next week if the car show thing goes well. I'll let you guys see the (ugly) results. It seems I can't see in a welding hood, and my welds wander off track like that guy in Alans field.

All is well and now I have possession of a honest to golly RUST FREE 56 Ford Panel.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts

BJ cood deal and a road trip and rust free 56 panel.
sounds like a good score on the panel bj..
i have 2 old stick welders but thru the years and many repairs my leads are getting too short to reach out of the shed..

allan sounds like a interesting night in sparta..
..i have had some experience with thieving meth heads myself.. in the old days before i became the 'peaceful' person i am now i would of been tempted to help the poor guy out.... like john wayne would a horse with a broken leg...
I got one of the bumpers done last night, but today I have to start on the headers for EQ and get him cleaned up in case I need to head north again. I also want to get my tractor serviced this week. The oil change doesn't have many miles on it, but the oil is three years old, so I want to get that taken care of.
