I will have to ask the guys at KDD on the lifter and push rod set I am getting.
They are not the same as stock and have a better rating or so I am told.
Bruce, when you are done, I like to get the cam and lifters if they will not be reused. But, again, I'll pay for shipping. I've got others where I've torn them down.
Here's a page of some of what I think you had going on.
There's another active discussion going on right now on the org about oil temps.
No problem Jack. The cylinder walls still have visible crosshatch patterns. But, on cylinder 6, I see more signs of piston scuffing on the upper side of the cylinder. More so than on the other cylinders. I may pull that piston to take a look at it before she gets traded in.
Sean, I think KDD has Johnson lifters for their builds. At least that's the lifters they have on their page. Lifters are hard to come by right now through some machine shops. I found a good source for Melling lifters for our applications. So when I buy a reman short block, I may forego the machine shop cam and lifters and source my own components. B.
I'm stil tossing the idea of installing a RR system. Specifically the one from XDP. I'm sure the factory fuel lines can handle the flow, but those tubes are awfully small. Plus the factory tubes are steel, which can add to preheating of the fuel. The system from XDP uses hoses which, at least to me, would help insulate the fuel from under hood heat. And the hoses have a larger diameter. Allowing for more fuel flow.
I'm going to stick with the factory 11 plate oil cooler. I don't feel the need to worry about it plugging up again since everything will be thoroughly flushed and clean when I re-install everything. B.

@LindenBruce When the manufacturer was getting low on lifters, they contacted us to tell us that they were down to their last 12,000 in stock and that Melling wanted to buy them all. They said that they wanted to make sure that we had enough first. We bought them all so if you want genuine Union made in the USA lifters, we have them on our web site for $245. per set of 16 (free shipping). We also have 4130 Chromoly pushrods listed.
Are the Melling lifters equal too or better than the Ford units? Traditionally Melling has had a real good reputation. I have new pushrods already so I'm good to go there. B.
@LindenBruce they typically buy the OEM lifters but since I bought all that the manufacturer had that were designated to go to aftermarket suppliers back around the first of the year, I don't know what brand they are selling. They may have been able to get some OEM in the past couple of months but I bought the entire inventory in January of February this year and, at that time, they had indicated that they would only have enough to supply dealerships until maybe August.
@LindenBruce a basic replacement engine that we sell for $3195. short block / $5195. long block has a stock OEM cam in it. Our own Asheville Engine Stage 2 cam is a brand new billet cam which is made to our specifications in the same facility that manufactures new cams for Navistar/International and Ford. We don't offer a stage 1 or 1.5, the only other cam we offer and keep in stock is a Straub Stage 2 cam. We have built engines using several other cams which were supplied by our customers.
@TooManyToys.@LindenBruce was asking if the Melling lifters were equal too or better than the Ford OEM lifters.
That does not clarify your comments on the matter relating to the term "they". Are you saying that Melling does not make lifters, that Melling resells Ford lifters - none of this makes sense.

@TooManyToys. I don't know every connection in the industry but a lot of companies outsource for products. Ford doesn't make their own lifters either. The OEM lifters are made by UAW Local 167 in a General Motors Holdings plant in Wyoming, Michigan. It's like @LindenBruce asking about our camshaft. Even though we started by building our own stage 2 camshaft years ago, for the past 6 or 7 years we've been having EPC make them to our specs for us because they can build and sell them to us cheaper to us than we can build them ourselves. My guess is that Melling outsources and repackages some of the products that they sell also. Maybe a lot of them.
