Made a little progress on the chassis yesterday. It was around 60°F so I installed all the new spring shackle mounts. Drilled the rears for 55-56 F-100 springs. Mounted the under the frame brake booster mount. I got the kit to use my original pedal. Then I found out I have a proportioning valve for drum drum, I’ll have disc/drum. So I ordered a new valve. I guess it’s time to get some brake lines to bend and mount.
Wow it’s been a while since I posted. Hope everyone’s holidays were nice and Santa brought you everything you wanted.
I’m not sure where I left off it’s been so long. I’ve been working in the basement on backing plates for my front disc brake conversion. I tried making a backing plate out of 16 gauge but it kept warping so I abandoned that and decided to try to use the backing plate from the trucks drum brakes. Me and a couple of cutoff wheels later and I’ve got a couple of backing plates.
While working on the backing plates I took the rotors to have them trued. Then I also noticed one caliper was hanging up. So I disassembled them and both were rusted. Thinking I knew what I was doing I ordered new calipers from a Rock Auto, received them, returned the cores and then discovered I’d ordered the wrong calipers. So I am eating a pair of calipers $36 after core return and ordered The Right ones. In the meantime I was trying to fit my backing plates, caliper mounting brackets and rotors to the spindles and on one side I kept having a rub. Long story short they turned the rotor wrong and I had to take it back for a “ReDo”. What’s .015 amongst friends anyway.
I’m now trying to figure out if I should change the Dana out for a 9”. I took the wheels off the back and there were still the factory drum clips on two studs on each side.
That's a great idea on using the backing plates for a rotor shield. They are just the right diameter to look made for the rotors. I just put the rotors on but I still have the old drum setup and just may go back and make rotor shields like you did. Ingenious!!
Got to 60° Today so I got out and worked on the panel. Patched a rust through on the rocker panel and removed and installed the drivers floor. Almost used panel adhesive but was afraid Temp may not be favorable.
For you that use panel adhesive would this be a good use for it?
Still need to replace the Passenger side floor and a small rust through under the heater.
Does anyone sell the bump that houses the high/low headlight switch?

I didn’t realize my bump was missing when I repainted the cab. I’m thinking of looking for a metal cooking bowl of the right size to glue and screw in its place. Dennis
