Time keeps a ticking. Well I got the fittings, installed them and bled the brakes! I decided to put on roller wheels instead of the new Wide Whites so they didn’t get marred in transport to the shop and while installing the body back on the frame. BUT when I went to install one of the rollers on the rear end it Hits!
Glad I didn’t opt for the powder coated calipers. After several installs, removals and grinding sessions I couldn’t get the roller wheel to spin freely. So I thought maybe it’s the wheel. I installed one of my Wide Whites and everything cleared.
Feeling like a (dunce) I tried the other side with a Wide White first, it hits, I haven’t returned to grind down the other caliper yet.
Why Oh Why is nothing just straight forward and easy?
Thanks John, I forgot that part. I ordered 1/4” spacers when I first tried the roller wheel. Even with spacers it hit. It’s hitting on the wheel at the edge of the lip that’s riveted.
Caliper with longer caliper pin installed
Here’s a picture of the 1/4” spacers and the ground down caliper to get the wheel to clear. I did find out there are two (at least) different length caliper pins too.
Finally no more rubbing!
1/4” spacer thank goodness I installed longer wheel studs. Couple of grinds but still dragging Grinding near caliper bolts seems to help More grinding near caliper bolts Two differently length caliper bolt lengths. Long ones were a problem.

Reason: Added long pin installed
S L O W L Y making progress. You guys that installed Toyota power steering; is the groove in the input shaft marking straight forward? With no blind tooth on the sector it’s hard to tell where to install the pitman arm. Once that’s figured out I’ll be ready to install the 351C W/AOD & put the body back down on the frame.
I’ve been waiting on a few parts for the frame so I decided to work on the front sheet metal. I set the grill and other frontend stuff aside to mock up the radiator. Didn’t realize it would make a nice photo Op until I went to walk the dog.
Loaded up the chassis today. Just a come-a-long and me. The Mrs is happy to get her parking space back in the house garage. Not sure how I’ll get the Panel back down on the chassis but where there’s a will there’s a way.
Also need to figure out if I’m going to sandblast the inside and bottom of the body. I’m going to keep the patina for now. I’d like to but I really want to drive it to the Ozark Mountain Run this year.
if you need some help, I can come up for a day. I've got leave I need to burn. With all this covid stuff, I haven't taken leave that I normally would have.
Now, not sure how much help I would be with that big panel, but an extra set of hands might smooth things out a bit.
