Lifting a panel body adds a whole new wrinkle in that task. It makes removing a regular cab by yourself look like child's play.
Why in the world would you weld the mount to the frame? I get that he thought he would never need to move it, but still......
Bummer on the frame crack. It's always something for sure.
As Roseanne Rosannadanna used to say, "It's always something!"
I don’t know why they weld the spring mounts to the frame but I can tell you it’s a fairly common thing and I have 2 frames here right now that have the same mount welded to the frame. I’ve seen it more than the 2 frames I currently have.
It’s a little odd. The Passenger Side had it’s front upper shock mount & the front rear spring hanger Welded to the frame, cracks in the cab mount and a crack in the frame between the top holes in the cab mount.
Loaded the frame up today and had the frame crack fixed by a certified welder and then took it to the sandblaster. I’ll check it really well after the blasters done before I POR 15 it. Don’t wanna deal with anymore cracks or cracking on this build.
Does anything mount there on the backside of the frame? If not, I would weld a plate on the backside over that area also. That will stop it from ever doing it there again.
Never tried it on rust or bare metal. always on decent paint. here is one that I've been working on time to time thanks to my daughter. You can see the damage on the rear quarter from rear You can see the damage on the rear quarter from Front After some pull You can see it's coming There has been some repairs on behind the rear tire before so it doesn't stick well therebut used other means to put some of it out. A lot better. Now this was all done with old plastic screw drivers and nail being pulled with a pair of channel lock or plyers. I will use my weld dent puller when I strip back the paint and get her closer. This is mostly double wall and support with poor access.
Wife is battling Stage 4 colorectal cancer. We’re at the oncologist at least a couple times a week. Didn’t take pictures but did do a little welding today too.
Real sorry to hear what your wife is facing BJ, has got to be awfully hard on you too.... Glad you're tackling the welding yourself on this project rather than farming it out..
Picked up the the frame from the blasters yesterday. Since it was a roller I had to pull the rear axle, springs and mounting shackles. Then I got 1 coat of POR15 on the frame. Axle removed. Wife says she wants her parking space back! Two frames in our home garage.
