Good morning Oregon and everyone everywhere else. 34 and clear. Sthickly goes to the Vet in a few minutes. The antibiotic seems to have worked quite well, now to get to the root of the problem.
Happy Monday! Nice weekend to get some things done outside. Contractor finished the new roof on Saturday while I put 15 gallons of kill everything down in preparation for some tree planting. Mowed the yard for the first time yesterday, smoked a small brisket, and most importantly, spent much of the day cleaning and prepping the boat! Need to hit the river for a systems check and hopefully will be ready to go fishin once the fish show up. New onboard charger is due today so will need to get that installed soon. Managed to find a new tach on Amazon for cheap which should arrive this week also. I'll find out if it's the tach is busted or if it's actually the ECM that has lost part of it's brain.

And, the bigger the boat the bigger that hole in the water is!
Should be able to use the multi meter to see if you are getting the tach signal through the harness. That's how I ultimately found that the tach I had, had a grounded short that was causing a no start condition. New tach to replace that 'new' tach solved the problem. The OEM tach had quit reading out RPM's but didn't keep the boat from starting. The new tach with the short actually would show RPM's while the engine was turning over, but kept it from firing and caused extreme low voltage in the signal wire at the coil.
I'll have to find a place I can run the tub and do some testing. When I was at the boat show I asked someone who used to be the regional Marine Power Rep for umpteen years about it, he smiled and immediately said it was the ECM. He said the MP(GM) 6.0's were notorious for losing the part of the brain that runs the tach. When I asked for the fix he said new ECM...to the tune of about $1600. I figure the $46 I spent on a tach is a cheap start. The ECM....not so much.... sigh... crossing my fingers.
Wow! $1600 for an ECM! If you get unlucky you might check with Jim out in Grand Ronde with Jim's Boat Parts. I have his phone number if you need it.
I guess I'm lucky to still have a coil for it to run off of. $52.00 at Amazon - no shipping cost with Prime.
