Haha yeah that's what I was thinking when I saw that picture!

I guess it worked out though! I've done it before with my 305 and the 350 still sitting in the garage, but these blocks weigh a slight bit more than those!

Anyways that's exciting to get the motor back, hopefully you can get around to putting it together soon! Are you planning on painting it/powder coating anything?

Painting yes, powder coating no, heat wrap the up pipes yes. I'm painting it a radical color you will see when I install the heads.

Haha I'm excited then I'm sure it will look awesome!

I'm not sure what I want to paint my old motor yet, I've been thinking about it a bit. However, I should probably wait on getting it rebuilt before I consider the cosmetic portion of it...

I was going to try heat wrap for the pipes too, but ceramic coating was easier for me because I just had to drop them off and wait!

Yeah powder coating is nice but $$$ around here, I'm using rust remover on the exhaust manifolds and leaving them raw and have them machine them flat. I'm doing bellows on it as well, I'm using the 99.5-03 ones cut to fit and then wrap them. Can't wait to start working on it but work has been busy.

Lol... I'm trying to Glenn but with the baby is hard to find time and with the crazy weather we've been having is nearly impossible to do anything.

Good news is I took one of the heads to get the comp springs installed, I was working on the other head with valve lapping. I actually used the head I took of the mule coblnsidering that the seats were not as worn as the other heads that came from the dusted engine I'm taking the head on the bottom picture today and should have them by Friday. Pics or this thread is worth less right lol....

And my boy

Lol... Phil I know, I know, got to get my butt to gear. Well I did received some disturbing news from the machine shop in the afternoon, apparently the head I took in today has BIG OL CRACK from one of the exhaust valve seat all the way to the port, ouch!!!! The good news is I have spares so I took him a "new" one and it's going to get finish by tomorrow, I should have the long block assembled by the weekend if God gives the OK.

Dang so the blown head gasket may have caused the head to crack as well? Or maybe the head cracked instead of having a blown gasket? Either way it's good you have spares!

Right, I don't think this head was the problem, I'm still think it's the driver side one that failed. They Magna flux the head when I took them the other head it was clearly visible with that powder, goes from the seat all the way to the exhaust port. But the machinest said the coolant passages were not affected by the crack.

OK just picked the heads today, but the shims he used were installed on the top of the valve stem seals? Non the less they are on and look good, I can't push them down as easy as before.

I did not want to use this head for obvious reasons but the machines said its better than the one with the crack and that the dings won't affect performance in any way.

How does something like that happen on the head? If the machinist said it's okay after they did the work, then that's good news. I suppose the only thing it could have an effect on is changing the volume of the combustion chamber ever so slightly.

I guess excess heat or maybe debris got in the motor that came off and made that happen? Either way since the head gasket doesn't seal there and the valve surface looks like it should be fine I don't see why it would effect anything either!

Are you ready to start putting things back together now, or does the machinist have the block as well?

The engine I removed it from was dusted and the piston rings were broken and there was chunks of piston missing on that cylinder, took the turbo exhaust turbine with it as well.
