I spun the GP adapter all the way into the head, then without the VC gasket in my way, I approached the GP adapter from the valley side, just over the VC bolt hole. Your picture shows a VC bolt where mine would be removed... what gives?
Also... maybe my GP adapter is different (your kit is certainly different than mine), but yours is way the hell up high in the head. Mine spun down until the hex part was flush with the face of the head.
Oh crap... I had to stare at it for a while. You have studs, where I have bolts. All is not lost... get the GP adapter down and the VC gasket out of there - it may still fit.
One more thought after reviewing everything - a socket won't spin the adapter in there, it won't fit. I used tubing that I modified (you can see the picture above). If you take your GP adapter down to the hardware store, you might find some tubing that fits snugly without adapting. This is the concept that led me to use tubing to spin the adapter in/out:
5/16 fuel line works to spin the adapter in. A foot of it is plenty. You can get a 1/4 drive 7/16 socket with a 1/4" extension on the adapter. I tape the socket to the extension and block the holes for the push rods when messing with the sockets....
My studs come out, so I was able to test without them. I suspect you could work around the studs.
You do need to put it to the side of the rocker and the clip it in. And you need a 90 degree pick to get it off.
5/16"? That's the black fuel line I have for the GPs. Either I have a different fitting, or it never occurred to me to put the tubing in the inside diameter of the adapter.
OK... I cleared the air from my brain fart. My tubing is semi-rigid. That means the dimensions I work with are Outer Diameter, where your hoses are measured in Inner Diameter. 5/16" OD semi-rigid fuel tubing nails the glow plug handily. The GP adapter? I dunno, I made do with what was hangin' around my shop. 3/8" OD? 7/16" OD?
Here's the only strange thing that I noticed. On cyll7 the glow plug adapter had a brownish fluid on it after the test. I did not notice anything on the glow plug.
It's Almost like an oil and water mix. My coolant is red, so I don't think it's coolant.
