mikenamys truck (red hose in OEM position I assume):

Don't these MAP and ebp curves look pretty close?

Yep, the difference being in the deltas. Your's bounced from @ 42-48 and the other's delta isn't as large.

Both MAPs are maxing out around 18 psi of boost. 32-14=18 (assuming 14 psi is Baro)

When you remove the turbo post some pics of the turbine wheel (exhaust side of turbo) and check to see if the EBPV might be hanging up on a nut or something.

Did the forum stop auto-resizing photos? Everything seems bigger now. Or is it just my browser?

I just had the turbo out a couple of months ago when I did the up pipes. I don't know if I took any photos of the exhaust wheel. I know it was black, it turned easily and there was no play.

The ebp lever was free with no binding or catching. It was free enough to just flop around if that makes any sense.

The forum increased the maximum size for images, so the re-sizing is bigger now. I'm a big fan of 1024 X 768 for images where detail is key, and 640 X 480 where "I just wanna show you something" applies.

I can load a page real fast at home, but a smart phone or slow connection chokes on these threads that are image-intensive. Smaller images helps with this problem.

What is the FIPW you are seeing with the higher EGT's?

OK, I did a little hacking. It looks like the large images can be fixed. I fixed the last few on this page.

It looks like the image server dynamically generates the images based on the url.

The bottom image is the the original one and the top one is the fixed one. I don't know if this hack will work long term though. I left the original unmolested url below the image just in case....

I don't have the PW while towing on grade with high EGTs. I can either log PW with torque and NOT log EGTS (Torque can display them but not log them) or log egts without PW because DashCommand doesn't support PW.

Here's a short WOT run from this morning:

Good fueling application numbers, like always. The questions are...
  • Are the injectors giving what they are told to do, and at the right time?
  • If the actual fueling is correct, where's the pressure loss?
  • Could both MAP and EBP sensors be lying tto me and the pressure is good?

The MAP sensor is crazy reliable, and a boost gauge confirms MAP - where applicable. EBP? Not so much. Those things are dropping like stock in pagers at this age/miles.

This is basically a $2,000 test right? Cross your fingers and throw in new injectors?

Agreed.

Does it make sense to focus on back pressure vs boost. For example what back pressure should I be able to make with the red tube connected vs disconnected.

If I can make more pressure disconnected, then doesn't that imply there's not a huge leak on the exhaust side?

That would be an awful trick for the truck to play. I have a 25PSI gauge that I used for measuring coolant pressure. I'll see if I can tee that into the MAP as a sanity check.

Is EBP part of the overall Boost/Power equation. Would replacing a EBP sensor impact power somehow?

Does anyone know what the threads are on the EBP sensor?

I think can kill 2 birds with one stone here.

What if I:

1) Remove the EBP sensor
2) Plug the hole
3) TEE the EBP sensor into the MAP line.

This will let me test both sensors with "live" data. It will also tell me if the EBP is bouncy or if it's reading bouncy data from the manifold.

The truck will still see a somewhat reasonable EBP value so I would think it would treat the readings as good.

Is this a reasonable test to perform?

I need to understand fueling and smoke or lack of it better.

For example, I would assume that if I have an air side problem (boost leak, bad turbo, etc) then I should absolutely get some black smoke when I stomp on the peddle. Possible quite a bit. The computer will call for some amount of fuel but the air side won't be able to keep up. This will result in over fueling and black smoke.

There's nothing I can do to get black smoke.

So is the inability to get any black smoke a high probability pointer to the fuel side?

Yes, if you had a boost leak or not enough air you should see black soot out the tail pipe. That's why a few pages back folks were asking about any smoke out the tail pipe.

Zero, I even provided a video to show that.

The fuel filter gets replaced tonight. If that doesn't help then is the next logical test to get the fuel pressure on the fuel rails in the head to ensure the injectors are actually seeing full pressure?

I have tested the pressure to the inlet of the filter and I know that's good.
