The front and rear gaskets are pretty thick and they might have dried out a bit when grumpy sat. Check the corners between manifold, block and head, with 3 surfaces in 1 corner that becomes a weak spot. Sometimes wiping it down, spraying with brake cleaner and shooting in a dab of RTV black will do the trick if the corner is leaking. You just changed the distributor so it should be okay as long as it's not nicked. Be grateful you don't look like my passport photo, although you look like you could be related to my neighbour, who's from Estevan. Got any Grampa Tony's in your family LOL.
Driving Grumpy today because its +1 outside for a high. Took him to town for lunch and back and that fluid is still there. looks like its been leaking some more as there is "blow back" from the pool of liquid up onto hoses etc.
Looking better at it, I'd say a head gasket is leaking. Drivers side head area is all wet. Boo urns...
So do I tear out the 302, do a tear down and cleaning with new gaskets and head gaskets or do i find a little 4 banger diesel or something...
Unless the diesel comes complete with mounts, x members it would be better to look for a small block. these efi units work well in you have an intake and carb laying around and a 351w will bolt in to what you got.
Its most likely the intake gaskets. They are pretty easy to change. No need to pull the engine. Do the intake and valve covers and call it good. But if you really want to get some performance, find some explorer GT40 heads and a 4barrel intake and carb.
Grumpy sat long enough that some of his rubber parts have probably dried out. Might be worh it to pull the motor, clean it, flip it over, pull the flywheel/pressure plate and take off the oil pan and replace front and rear seals. Would give you a chance to inspect his innards and clean everything up to paint level. Then at least you can feel confident your motor is good or you'll spot a problem before it happens. It'll only cost you a gasket and seal kit and maybe some rattle can blue.
well i have been getting the itch to pull the motor and freshen it up. just dunno where to do that... I dont have a garage per say. i have a shed, but not heated. I have my room of dhoom in the house but there is no way the wife is letting me bring an engine inside the house.
In 2 months its the start of may, pull your insurance and put that toward the gasket set. Grab a motor stand and a cheap new tarp and do it in the shed in may. Most of the frost will be gone by then.
37 years since last accident, 34 years since last ticket and these aholes charge me $197 a mont for 75 f250 camper special & 79 f350 srw custom cab. My brother pays $740 per year for 2012 f350 crewcab dually, 8 demerits. Alberta logic, sure miss Manitoba & Saskatchewan rates.
you do have to have one normally plated vehicle to get those discounts. aka my 2012 f150.
Anyhow yeah, its the intake gasket leaking. Dunno how long it has done that. might be why the engine was coated in oil when I got it.
So on the way is a Fel Pro complete gasket and seal kit, A saddle blanket seat cover, A new EGR plate and EGR valve, and waiting on a shipping quote is a new carburetor. It's probably a chinese knockoff but mine is pretty tired...
yay, i hit 40k. now 140, 240, 340, 440, 540, I dunno..
And the boo...
I got stuck today out at the landfill... well almost stuck. Had to give'r good to get going and worked my way out. The bad, I think I hurt something. My intake gasket is leaking bad front and back now. Think i blew out the passenger side donut for the exhaust and I have little to no oil pressure on the gauge..
Not sure what happened. Not sure if i did something bad. I don't believe it is ticking though..
Should I be looking for a new donor motor or should i just pull the heart and tear it down and rebuild it. I was going to do gaskets and seals anyhow. Just not sure about getting heads planed and getting cylinders honed and so forth...
had a phone call. local buddy seen my rant on facebook. says he has a 69 302 out of a truck that is in his mustang. he found the correct engine for his mustang and is wanting to sell the motor. Would that 69 302 be the same block and everything as my 73? or did they change lots of stuff between years?
