1973 F100 - Grumpy
probably newest parts he's had in years!
Also picking up some slightly used tires for him tonight. 15" fronts 16" rears. just happen to know a guy with that combo for cheap!
I went and vacuumed out the glass today. Here is the worlds trade fair sticker (or whats left of it)

What I started with

Guess I can't say it's mouse free. only one I found

Old Rubbermaid brand floor mat out and cleaned up

Over in the drivers side

And then put the seat ahead... That is the factory jack there to!

Need the seat re-done though.. bit far gone. Darn seat covers were there for a reason I guess

Look what was in the glove box (other then mouse poop..)

Found this scribbled under the hood. No clue what it means.

Got some "new" rubber on him today. Atleast they hold air! Also brake lines still look great.

Need two more of these hub caps to...

SGI licencing paper. not sure why it was done. not a vehicle safety.

Looks to be original licensing document!

And original owners manual!

and a road map from back in the day. probably when Kilometers came into effect.

And the entire owners manual if anyone needs for reference

Carb looks new

Got a battery in Grumpy today.

OF course it didnt have good charge.. it was second hand

So got that all done and charged it up for awhile. It will crank a few good times then just runs out of battery. sign.. I was trying it on some liquid fire to see if I can get it to fire and I'm not even getting a puff out of him.. I did put the missing screw out of the distributor back in. I found it on the top of the air cleaner lol. It was holding the pivot post down part. Maybe something is dirty in there and not letting spark across.
Oh well did enough for my day off. It's Beer-o-Clock for me!
Now days a set of points will sit on the shelf for months if not years. In that time they will develop an oxide coating on the contacts surface. This insulates the contacts and keeps them from making contact electrically.
Either get a point file (very few people know these exist anymore
) or some fine sandpaper. double up the sandpaper and run it between the contacts to clean the coating off. Once you do that, take a piece of paper (a dollar bill works well) and run it through the points. This is to clean off any grit that remains from cleaning. Gap them at .017" and you should be good to go.
Grumpy got booted off the car trailer because my father needed it lol. I was hoping to drain the tank while it was nice and up off the ground.. there is an inline fuel filter before the pump at the low spot up front. figured that with one of those hand squeezing siphon pumps would get what little was left in the tank out and make room for some fresh stuff.
I'm hoping to drive him before the snow flies this year!! lol... still no new windows in him yet either. might have to get it driving to get it down to the glass place so they can do that. they have a scratch windshield for me for cheap and a nos back window that was in a box way in the back of their shop. so far the tarp top has been working well to keep the rain out of him!

still no window

SO I drained out 5 gallons of what is now varnish out of the tank. man does it smell!!! I put in $40 bucks worth of new stuff plus a fuel stabilizer and octane booster.
replaced the in line fuel filter just before the pump & the hose parts there. then took the filter off at the carb and it was clean and could see light come through the mesh.
New points and condenser were installed, they were pretty worn. was getting ready to time it but wouldnt run...
If we were "bottle feeding" Grumpy he would run! and well!! but soon as we let off the bottle it would just stall out... So we thought maybe the float needle was stuck or something. Took the top half of the carb off and.... no fuel in it what so ever! So we took the line off at the carb and ran it to a bottle and cranked it over some more. No fuel or even pressure..
not ONE store in town has a fuel pump for it... and it's a long weekend... so I'm s.o.l. for now.
