Wow, those look pretty cool and probably why there expensive with all the anodized color and laser engraving.
After replacing MANY alternators on Ford vehicles, both aftermarket and stock units of various amperage output and being an electronics guy, I really think that it comes down to the quality of the charging diode and its life expectancy. My old truck (F150) ate an alternator every year, had stock units, 160amp units for big $$$. They all have the same problem, even these DC Power units.... Diodes. It's not the windings, and rarely the brushes either. When was the last time you heard "my alternator is worn out"?
It's the charging circuit diodes and heat, just eats itself. A larger set of cables may help with flow impedance. I put the larger cables on recently and will see just how long a stock 140 will last, the Alt is new also as are the batteries.
The case maybe heavy duty, larger windings, more AMP output, but in reality, the diodes are the same rating, there just not built heavy duty like the rest of the unit is.
Had my DC Power re- installed today it's doing what it's suppose to be doing now. I hope it last longer than 2 weeks this time.
4 freaking days! What a piece of chit, I'm boiling right now! Wiring is exactly installed the way it should be by a very qualified shop. Waiting now for DC to answer the phone, to see what the next step this one has been repaired (according to DC).
Recap 3-4 months to get, lasted about 14 days, sent back to DC complete, repaired and a month later I received back without mounting bracket or cable adapter, about a month later they sent me the bracket ( not a perfect color match) I'm guessing they lost my original bracket, I leave for back to back vacations get back to have it reinstalled they forget to send back cable adapter, 8 days later it arrives, tech installed 4 days ago was showing 14.5 under the hood, yesterday I drive 40 hwy miles at end of drive my tuner shows me 12.9 volts, vender calls them they tell him to jump the yellow line, this morning he jumps it as instructed it showed 14.9 for 6 minutes now it's sitting at 13.2 everywhere WTH!
Yes this is one long sentence, going back in a couple hours to see what the plan is but for know stocker going back in then my plans are to go to the range and blow crap up!

Thanks FTE for giving me a home to vent!
I was half expecting to read you jokingly saying it survived another day, but my bottom jaw fell open in shock to read the exact opposite Shame
No joke bud, I'm sitting at the performance place waiting for them to swap it and yes my range bag is in the Ex loaded with big caliber only for today's de-stressing session 9mm just ain't gonna do it today.
And by all the posts I read saying how bad the service is... I'll say the company is in the same boat!
I waited almost a month for the battery cable kit... Won't buy another DC product ever! real shame guys are spending $400 on an alternator that lasts no longer or in most cases less than OEM!
I built my Alt from a kit that I found on line, says it will juice the 140 large 6g to 200 amps. I haven't tested it, but it works like a champ.Cost me a 125 dollars and 2 hours time
Wow guys - to say I'm amazed at the product quality issues is an understatement. We still have yet to have even one issue. I guess I don't know what to say.
Re: product availability. We stock the DC Power alternators - the 185's, the 190HD's, the 250HD's, the 270XP's, and even the 370XP's. We also now stock our own version of the cable kits - offering the 'base' 1/0 kit that includes the fuse-protected wire from the passenger battery to the alternator along with the ground cable, but now also including as options a 4/0 cable as a beefier battery interconnect option, and a fuse protected connection from the alternator to the driver side battery.
Hope this helps someone. I have the 270XP unit in my truck and have been absolutely thrilled with it.
I've been curious about the 6.4 215 amp version of their alternator. It seems the power lug would interfere with the CAC tube, but it might be possible to reclock the rear case to move up and out of the way.
Not entirely sure if the 6.4 alternator uses the same connector as the 6G either.
I found the guys that have all the stuff for rebuilding and up grading your own alt,the name is alternator+starter parts wholesale, phone is 888-502-0960. You can order on line too
