Well, if you swap the Crane advance unit on there, there will be no retard port anyhow.

I've never heard of Richporter so I can't say anything about that distributor, other than it's NEW for under $20.
And is listed $80.99 at Advance.

A cap, rotor and adapter will add about $42 for cheap ones on Autozone's site.
The Crane adjustable advance unit is about $44 IIRC.

What's interesting is that if I go into Amazon, pull up an 81 F250 400 and find a dizzy it gives me
this one this one
. For $50.68 The picture shows it has the right vacuum advance, but since the picture doesn't show the right cap or adaptor, so why would I believe it has the right advance.

But the idea of having a new dizzy for $19 is intriguing so I think I'll order it and see.

You know, your 335 dizzy and my 385 dizzy are the same.

On Amazon the Richporter $19 one comes up as fitting my 1987 F250.

Funny how the exact same distributor is 2/5 the price because it has an extra vacuum port.

That's true, I'd forgotten they interchange. It originally said there were two, but only one now. Best hurry.

Edit: I wonder if the advance side is the same?

Gary, have you considered the MSD dizzy and components?

I have considered MSD, but have been told by others that the DuraSpark units are more than capable of handling the load. What are your thoughts?

MSD is mostly Chinese junk now. Pretronix is where I would go if I were going after market again.

TFS didn't have a Mr Gasket number for you?

And, are you going aftermarket?

I'm going aftermarket simply because they are easier to find here, believe it or not. So many old fords are still running out here. I also think the Duraspark upgrade may have already been done to this truck.

As Jim said, my theme is "Ford, another way" and when it'll work I want to use Ford. Bill Vose/85Lebaront2 assures me the DS-II system is up to the task, and he should know as he ran a carb & ignition shop for decades. (And don't get him started on MSD.) So I'm going that way unless it doesn't work.

I've done a little bit of that myself, with a Taurus alternator and an E350 power steering pump etc...

MSD takes the 'shotgun' approach to ignition below 3k where it is relatively easy to ignite the charge and there is time for it to burn.
You're back to a single spark when the engine is spinning and working hard.
My truck loves to cruise at 3k.
Why is that???

I thinks it has to do with the number between "4x4" and "10.25" in your sig. But a little math says that's 80 MPH in 5th.

Oh yes, the ZF5 came from an '89 plow truck that rusted into dust.
So, more Ford parts on a truck that didn't come with them...

I got that whole setup, including floor plate, B/W 1356 transfer case and crossmember for $100 from another member here on FTE.

4.10's DO get this truck out of the hole in a hurry,

Wow! That's a huge steal! And, I'll bet coming from a stop in 2nd you shift pretty quickly. With my 3.50's with the M 3rd is the do-anything gear. You can take off from a stop if you want, it is the gear for city corners, etc. but I'll bet with your torque and 4.10's 4th is pretty useful.

It was a great deal and I am very thankful that he had to clear out his parts stash.

Broke as I am most of the time, it's never good to have a truck that's broken too.

It's a little 'loose' so I try not to lug it in third.
