How much on average do you guys think it costs to populate a 08+ tailgate shell? I found the shell for $200 shipped on Craigslist and my tailgate is rotting really bad on the bottom.

I was kind a wondering that myself without having the new one to compare I know the hinge is different but knowing they go on new and old boxes I wonder if the insides are the same except the handle???

I believe the part that moves tge km atch rods is different but the latches and rods should be the same right? All it would be is the shell, handle with new latch mechanism, ford emblem and the cover plate. Plus the hinge but thats really it...oh and the plastic top cover.
I would get a matching billet badges emblem and get it painted to match but mechanically without the step thats really it i think.

I ended up with a tail gate paint matched, new hinge, cables and the cylinder rekeyed for around $600 ish. I think it would be more cost effective to just buy a new gate and either have it panted at a shop or do it yourself. IMO some things are almost not worth trying to reinvent.

I would definitely just snoop around your local upfitter. Theyre usually willing to unload them cheap. Usually in white but you could get lucky. You will also need a new driver side roller, about 15-20$ at the dealer for me.

Good to know! ill try finding some of the local upfitters, all the assembled tailgates i find are $800 ish each which is ridiculous IMO.

i would go for it, i like the newer gate plus i dont think you can get a standard one for your truck for cheaper

Yeah the I was going to install my Ex tank and then the supports literally almost fell off in a few places, i pulled a chunk out by hand. Also the brake lines blew.

Got the lights in last night, dont worry my passenger fender is going back on this weekend i need to POR 1 more spot on it lol. My phone didnt love taking good pictures of chrome this morning so i tried my best to make it so you could see the headlight really well and teh front end but it didnt work incredibly well.
