Ken, I have a stock 2000 F250SD/7.3PS, I am happy with the current performance but am thinking about an upgrade. Is the one you are talking of here a good start for a "rookie"? This is my first diesel (besides my John Deere tractor) and I am still learning the lingo. Will I need anything else but the tuner? Are there any downsides to doing this? My truck has 80K miles and still runs great. Just thought an upgrade might be in order after reading a lot of the post on the board. Thanks for any info you provide. -Glenn
The Microtuner is extremely easy to use. Its really just a simply matter of plugging it in, following the on-screen prompts and unplugging it. Take about 7 minutes. If you do heavy towing you'll need an EGT gauge.
No, not for diesels. The gas tuners do, except for the V10. I was referering a Supercrew in the above. If you scroll to the top of this page you'll see that tire isn't currently included with any Powerstroke tuner (Diablo, Superchips, Hypertech, etc.)
Ken, I have mine set on the towing/performance (90) setting. According to my onboard MPG display it went up 10 MPG not believing this I checked the first two tank fulls with good old fashion math and found it actually dropped about .5 MPG. The performance is much better but I was really hoping for better fuel mileage. BTW I and using Diesel Kleen fuel additive. Let me know what you think. Anyone else can chime in too. Thanks, Dave
I too have the towing/performance setting in my 96 and I saw a Decrease in my MPG? The decrease in MPG concerns me as it is about 4 MPG less.
This is not due to me ******* or running it hard.
Have you or superchips heard of a decrease in MPG?
Thanks Ken,
I tried that by using the white bottle (get from wal-mart). I thought the reduction in MPG may have been due to winter fuel?
One thing I noticed with the programer, the truck has a surge at idle and at different times?
KEn, I just got the new tuner, and it blew me away!! I knew it was going to be good, but they have out done themselves this time. I installed the 115 on my '02 F250 crew and now I m looking for an aftermarket HANS devive to keep from breaking my neck with the throttle, and to top it all off, I am getting 5-8MPG more now. Who woulda thought? The only side effect I see is my EGT can get up around 1250 when I top out in lower gears, but you just need need to use common sense. Guys, you gotta get your hands on this thing, it's worth twice the money!!
I'm not sure what the additive is from Walmart (I don't shop there anymore). Yes, winter fuel can cause reduction in mileage, hence the need for cetane booster. Are you getting much black smoke?
Don't trust the mileage computer once you tune/chip a Powerstroke. Always verify the mileage with and without a performance tune manually because performance tuning tends to throw off the computer.
Do you have an exhaust system on the truck? It will help the EGTs.
02PSD4ME, Have you pulled your trailer yet? Just wondering what kind of EGT you are getting under full load and at what setting?
Thanks
Yes I have I got 12.27 MPG.
Trip= 132 miles
Fuel = 10.75 gallons
That was going between 60 and 70 mph (~70% at 70mph) and using the 70 HP setting. EGTs were NO problem at all. My TT weigh in at ~10,000 lbs (a little over) and a golf cart in the back of the truck.
Were going away for easter so I will try the 90 HP setting
Without pulling the TT, going back in forth to work My last 4 tanks were 19.96, 20.17, 20.24 and 19.69. which is a little better that I have AVG. the last 2 years which is 18.6.
These are ALL hand Calculated, NOT using the overhead readout. If I went by that I would be getting 34+ MPG.

How can I tell if my 1705 has the three settings or it it only has 2. Only asks me questions when tuning. Doesnt give me an option to pick which level? Don't mean to sound stupid but I can't tell?
I have a '97 F350 powerstroke with the old 2 progam tuner. What would potentially happen if I removed the muffler and converter, replaced with a straight pipe, did nothing with the down tube and towed a 10,000 pound trailer cross country on high performance setting? Would this allow the engine to breath enough to run high performance?
