So, do I keep the other device hooked up to prevent the flashing? Do you think this will cause any harm. Do you know of anything I could do to prevent the flashing? Thanks!
Ken:Read with great interest about Microtuner and now I see I should have gauges.
Okay I can do that, but need to know which I should be using. Went to Motor web site saw POD and following: ISSPRO Preturbo, Postturbo, Boost and TransTemp (Already in Dash cluster) plus all hardware to wire in. Total cost around $325.00. A well know parts catalog sells a 3 in 1 gauge, Exhaust Temp., Boost and Trans. Temp. complete with everything $479.95. Which and what do you recommend. A little back ground on my PSD, I've already changed the exhaust to 4", have a Superchips programer and changed intake to a K&N Cold air system. I also use Diesel Kleen Gray. I do tow, at times, a 20' Haulmark trailor with a 1965 Mustang in it. I drive on flat land and mountains as I live in Notheast Pa. Just doing the mods I've done has really opened my eyes about diesel power and pick up. LOVE this truck. Love driving it and Love some of the looks I get when from dead stop to 55 I'm still with the car beside me!!! Thanks for your help!!! This is one great forum!!!!

I'm not familier with using the device with the SCMT.

The most important guage is the EGT. Pre more accurage but some say it has the possibility of sending melted probe tips into the turbo. I've yet to meet anyone that this has happened to. Post is not as accurate but is easier to install. Next, boost. Keeping the boost from going too high with a tuner will do wonders for your mileage. If you leave the tuner in the lowest setting and never do very heavy towing and live at low altitude then the EGT guage is optional.
Got the 1705. I am testing the fuel milage. Looks like a 3-4 MPG improvement. Not in Performance mode tho. Not because of the tuner. Driver can't keep his foot out of the go pedal! I like the Tow Safe setting. Better throttle response. Better shifts? Hills my truck used to kick down on now pull in OD witn small throttle input. Worth the money! Buy it from http://www.motorhaven.com/customer/home.php?cat=166 great service and best price.
I was just wondering how to tell if the 1705 is a 2 setting or a 3 setting. I am wanting to buy my husband one for Christmas and I know this guy that has one for sale, it is #1705 and the date by the number is 10/08/02, it does say you can program different things. I really hope someone can give me some good advice because all I know is my husband wants a powerchip for his 2000 F350 4 door truck. Any help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recently purchased a 2001 F-350 4x4 Supercab Lariat w/ 8' bed. I love the truck but am honestly still getting used to the feel of the diesel and the challenge of parking at the grocery store!
My only real disappointment has been the gas mileage (well, plus the ridiculous price for diesel compared to unleaded!). I have only been getting a little over 400 miles on a full tank (approx. 13-14 mpg) when not towing anything. I expected at least 16 mpg based on what others had told me. Maybe this was not realistic???
I am considering purchasing one of these Superchips from Motorhaven.com
It looks like Ken knows his stuff and is willing to answer questions...9 pages worth! After reading most of this forum it seems that this is one way to improve performance and gas mileage. What else should I do?
I travel between Detroit and Quebec, Canada regularly at 70-75 MPH often towing around 3,000-5,000 lbs.
I echo the previous poster's question about other modifications that are necessary in conjunction with the installation of the 1705 chip. I won't pretend to have a clue how all of this works, but I don't want to do something stupid and blow up my engine or something.
I appreciate any advice from seasoned and knowledgable owners. Thanks!
with the micro-tuner do you have to do anything to the exhaust?
or will stock work
thanks
Stock will work. If you tow heavy loads leave it in the lowest setting. If you want to use the higher settings while towing heavy loads you need an EGT gauge at the least and an exhaust is recommended.
question: I have a 97 PS 4x4. I have pulled the cat. with a flow master muffler and I am considering pulling the muffler and running straight pipes. Can I expect much of a difference with 4" pipes without changing the downpipe? or is the change in the downpipe the main advantage??
