sorry....I have a super chips 1705 tuner, no cat and no egt sensors and I am considering the upgrade....but was also curious if I could/should remove the muffler and if there is an advantage to running the straight pipes without altering the downpipe.
If this would be better in the general 7.3 section I can post it there instead.tks
Ken: Followed your advise and got the gauges, EGT, Boost & Tranny. All were not to difficult to hook up. Went one step further and installed stacks. Now it not only runs great but sounds and looks great. Love this F350.
I have 99 F250 4x4. It has a 4" Banks exhaust, K & N airfilter, 3 pod gauge system, with a Superchips Micro tuner.
My question is, I dont know the specs of my tuner in comperison to the 1705.
On the box it says:
MICO TUNER 2001
MAX-(Retail Version)
94-02 Ford Powerstroke 7.3L
1700
How does mine compare to the new 1705? (spec wise)
I have put the new superchips program in my 2003 PSD and makes a world of differenc as far as power goes.I only have it set on SAFE TOW mode and i do have a magnafloww ss exh. and k@n air filter.Ihave a problem though that when its cold out i get the same systems as if the EBPV is sticking then when the motor is warm everything is normal. If i remove the program or unplug the EBPV the problem goes away.I also noticed with the program that my auto trans will not kick down out of overdrive when in cruise control like it does without the program.I have written the superchips tech people about this but no response, any thoughts would be helpfull.
After reading all the good things about the 1705 on here I ordered one from motorhaven 10 days ago. I still didn't get it. called them and no one answers just a message. emailed them and no reply . anyone else have any problems or am I expecting to much.
Ken:
Just scanned all this thread and found two? references to the tranny pressure boost when a Micotuner program is installed. The references seemed to be asking how to cancel the pressure boost. My question is different:
I tow a heavy load, and have been cautioned about using exhaust braking with the auto tranny because of the possibility of the tranny clutch slipping with the pedal in the idle position (during deceleration) and the tranny pressure then down around 35 pounds. How does the Microtuner pressure boost work? Is the pressure boosted with the pedal at idle, if so how much?
I have several questions/comments revolving around the issue of using exhaust braking. Would Superchips entertain the thought of adding programming features which could be selected to: 1: activate the EGBV for braking, 2: Lock the torque converter during deceleration, and 3: program the tranny pressure boost to prevent clutch slippage during deceleration if it isn't already? Obviously these thoughts are aimed at a comprehensive software approach to a safe and effective tranny control for exhaust braking as an alternative to the hardware devices on the market, some of which seem to lack essential features.
Thanks

It shipped February 9th. Check your private messages, I've put the tracking number there.

I'm not sure what you mean by boost, are you talking about turbo boost, or line pressure increase on the transmission? I seriously doubt Superchips is going to add any features specific for braking --- my guess is it would a liability risk. Your best bet would be to ask them directly as I can't comment on future product enhancements for this.
Plan to install a chip, have read about the 3 stage Superchip and am interested, plus a 4" or 5' exhaust and a 3 gauge array. My question is the 5" exhaust worth the extra $ or will the 4" suffice. This will be on my 2001 F-250 7.3L diesel. The engine currently has approx. 95,000 miles on it. I tow a 26' travel trailer, but plan to upgrade to a 30' that weighs more. Thanx for any input from this forum.

Ken:
I'm asking about the transmission oil pressure boost introduced by the superchips programs, which is apparently designed to insure the clutchs don't slip due to the greatly increased horsepower and torque. Is the transmission oil pressure boosted when the fuel pedal is in idle position, as in when the truck is coasting with engine retarding?
I would presume that anything Superchip does to change the operating characteristics of the truck with their software conveys a liability, so they have to make sure they do it right and carry insurance. A braking system should be no different, unless you are saying they don't know how to do it and don't want to learn.

See posts on 6/25/03, 7/1/03 and 7/14/03 by Bricot which suggest that Superchips increasess the transmission oil pressure with their software to firm up the shifts.
