I am sure I am beating a dead horse with this one but I have to ask. Someones opinion with experience. Which exhaust system upgrade manufacturer is a great one, I have checked on Banks and they are expensive, probably good system but with the $. Tim
Check out Motorhaven. The prices are very fair and less than Banks.
In advance please pardon me if I ask stupid and/or repeat questions. I have a 1997 F-250SD, 7.3L PSD, 4x4, extended cab, with about 55K miles. I use this truck almost exclusively for pulling a large 4-horse trailer....when loaded about 8000 gvwt.
Recently I began to have a number of issues. In the order of apperance; 1) ABS light came on and a check of the codes (I was told idicated it was a loss of communication), 2) intermmintently at low speeds my speedometer does not register yet I am moving...below about 20 mph and then it jumps up and reads, 3) transmission when in automatic does "shift" but I detect no slippage...and if I "manually" select the gears it runs fine through the gears and in shifting, 4) performance seems to have slipped...loss of power and decreased mileage.
I am beginning to think I have issues with the PCM. If I bought a super chip tunner (1705) could this solve my problems? Is the PCM an inert item....ie could my PCM program code have gotten scrabbled some way? Before I buy a superchip tuner what else could I check or have checked...I have little or no confidence in the local Ford dealership for service
I hope this is enough info for some constructive feedback....I want my truck back in shape.
Just pulled a fairly heavy motorcycle and trailer to Atlanta with my PSD programmed in the Tow Mode and got 14.9. A little surprised. My truck has got 16.0 mpg puilling a 2,800 lb sailboat (600 miles) on the interstate at 70-80 mph (just last week). Can't say I understand why the 1,200 lb motorcycle (and trailer) only got 14.9. Should I dump the factory program back and see what happends?
ms60, Try replacing your ABS sensor in the rear center section first. I've seen many of the symptoms you describe caused by failure of this cheap part. The Ford part # is F85Z2L373AC and it retails for only $20 at any Ford or LM dealer. It's easy it change too. I've got one in my glovebox along with a cam sensor. You never know!
I just this weekend bought a 2001 powerstroke auto. 4x4 crewcab short bed with 48,000 miles what complete packages (chips, programmers, exhaust etc.) do you have that would give my truck more power and better fuel mileage. Not really worried about pulling a load all the time mostly daily driven without any load.
You'll need to call for package price discounts. 770-736-7122 or toll-free 1-877-399-6417. Ask for Ken (me). I'll be available there after 2pm (eastern standard time) on Friday. I'll go over with you the various options and what best fits your needs and budget. Plus give you a money back guarantee!
I got one and the power gain is definelty a neck snapper, but my mileage stayed the same as stock. I am looking for more fuel mileage, it has enough power at stock.
I used the lowest setting, "tow safe" setting. It has great power with the superchips, but I am looking for better mileage. I got 15 mpg with the superchips on the lowest setting and 16.6 mpg at stock setting. So its real close to the same as stock. I guess I am a real tite azz. maybe I should have used the performance tow setting. Thanks
My son has a 1999 F350 power stroke and recently installed a superchips programmer. Now he is getting codes showing a problem with the ECM. The truck is also running worse than an old Chevy diesel. Could there be a connection there or just a coincedence?
Its normal to get PCM error codes for that. The PCM does a checksum on the ROM and if its modified from a stock checksum it throws and error code. Has nothing to do with problems, the code will always be there when its tuned.
