That wasn't blowby getting sucked in through the intake? I did the CCV mod also while I had the intake out. I'll clean the intercooler out when it's a bit warmer out - i'm always afraid of dicking with plastic parts in the winter.
This was definitely black sooty diesel smoke, not burning oil smoke. Sounds/looks exactly like videos of a failing FICM. It's been slowly doing that in the extreme cold, even before the IPR valve failed.
How do you clean an intercooler? I would like to clean it on my Ex.
love the truck man, gonna try to do the coolant filter idea they way you did it, i found some volvo filters that have no additives for about 8 bucks. also if you need a bed i have a long bed in brownsburg indiana that i didnt get to use on my 01 v10, its a cali bed so no rust, ill make you a deal if you want it
Wow been a while since I've been on the forum, so much to report...

Had problems back in December, needed a new fuel pump, FICM, adn HPOP all at once. What a blast that week was. I also started a new job, so driving up to NH every night and working on the truck until the wee hours was taking it's toll on me and to be honest, mornings at the new job. Bad idea. So, I bit the bullet and shipped the truck off to MassDiesel. I had already cleaned the turbo and done the IPR valve (not knowing yet I had a bad HPOP). I thought it was just the IPR valve, but I ordered the pump anyways figuring "It'll need it soon anyways, might as well do it while I'm that far in. The wrong damn pump was shipped. So the hell with it, I put it all back together, and had it towed there. A week later, new billet HPOP, new [aftermarket] FICM, new Ford fuel pump. I did the EGR delete, banjo bolts, blue spring FPR, CCV mod, and a few new gauges (oil temp, water temp, low oil pressure, battery. Custom HPOP gauge is on order to match the others - all digital).

I haven't done it yet, but I read an article here that basically just said take it out and soak it in a Simple Green solution. Don't use anything flammable because it can ignite and blow your intake off lol. I suppose you could (because lets face it, the flammable harsh stuff works pissa), but you'd want to be sure it was clean, and that the chemicals wouldn't eat the plastic.

That's a tempting deal... Really tempting. I'll be in Indiana in a couple months actually. What color is it?
Nice to see your still plugging away at it. Scott does nice work over there at Mass Diesel. Cant wait to see her again. May not even recognize the old girl now !!!

Needs lift and 20's on 37's. Then maybe it'll look decent.
D/S cab corner is a 6" hole - previous owner bondo didn't hold apparently. Bed wheen arches are crap. I bought the stampings online, gonna tear into that this spring, weld in a proper fix the right way and not cheese it in like a scumbag used car dealer.
I also got red dust boots for the shocks. I have a red/black theme going on.
...and all bodywork and a fresh new paint job also in the works. I'll be in Indiana at the end of May and I think I'm gonna pick up a rust-free bed from a member here. Cutting out the cab corner and welding in a new one in the interim. Also gonna shave the emblems and weld in all the holes. I was thinking the 'International' lettering strip, but I'm undecided. I like the clean no-emblem look.
I am excited to see this. This truck is going to have some $$$ in it by the time you are done!
I contemplated selling it and getting a brand new one, but I wasn't impressed with the 6.7, hated the dash, and couldn't stand looking over that transformers hood.

Or the idea of $650/mo payments lol.
So, dump money into mine.
Can't argue with that. And this way you will get exactly what you want
Ya I wanted a set of Welds or Centerlines, but they wanted more for a set of just wheels than I got for the whole package. Way more.
What finish are those? Hard to tell in the picture. I killed all my front end chrome, took off the chrome step bars and had thought about black wheels, but then I figured adding some chrome back would be nice.
Did you get the hub rings? These wheels are lug-centric. Not mission-critical unless you're gonna be bashing down trees with it or towing a few horses with a gooseneck. I've have American Racing wintah beetah wheels on for like 6 months with no vibration or stud issues.
It sort of bugs me to not have hub centric wheels, but I'm not getting spacers and I don't have the money for the ones I really want. If I was carting my kids that I don't have around in it, I may spring for the extra bucks. But, if I had kids I probably wouldn't have money for custom made forged wheels lol.
I think they'll look just fine.
The body is next. I have some major cab corner rust on the DS, and the bed wheel arches are toast. This winter was brutal, they put salt down like the human species depended on it for survival. *******s.
