$360. Mine worked, my speedo is perfect now. Theres a trick to it
Ya $360 for a working speedometer is absurd to me. I have a Slate PC with ScanXL Professional (with Ford 6.0 PIDs). I'll have to see if it can calibrate.
I will however be coming through Connecticut twice this weekend...
So I finally decided to step up game a bit and upgrade my speakers. I have a nice Pioneer AppRadio that's been in for a year or more. The factory speakers aren't bad, but I needed some more depth. I got a 12" Pioneer sub and some Pioneer tweeters (brand *****). I got a cheap amp from Boss Audio - but i'm actually super pleased with it. I don't need to wake the dead and crack pavement (been there, have the hearing loss to prove it), I just wanted some deeper clearer sound. The best part: Free with amazon and Best Buy points. I bought an assload of parts on my Amazon card, and got another assload of points from Best Buy when I bought my girlfriend her graduation present (Macbook Pro).
Banks Technicooler
So I'm driving home sunday night, going light to light with a Cummins, and doesn't the turbo act up (sticky vanes, overboost to 40PSI), and blows the d/s plastic hose open at the bellows. I honestly thought it was the CAC, so I just went ahead and bought the Technicooler kit with new 3.5" mandrel bent tubes, boots, and the intake elbow. Come to find out it was the plastic pipe lol. Still going ahead with it - parts should be in tomorrow, but then I figure I'll clean the intercooler up nice and sell it on ebay.
The root cause of the problem is still there, so step one will be to put it back to a mild tune, then step two is address the turbo. I had thought of just taking it out and cleaning it, but my buddy the Ford Diesel tech told me not to waste my time because it's just going to do it again in the spring. And fall, and until it just fails entirely. 115,000 is a decent time for this turbo apparently... The new centersections have a non-stick coating on them where the vanes and unison ring move, solving the issue forever. Bad news is it's $800 for that part. I guess not bad news, that's a lot cheaper than an aftermarket blower - but my mantra is if a part fails (for any reason, natural causes, self-inflicted, whatever), replace it with something beefier.
So...
...New Turbo
I want something that can run mild now with stock injectors, but will pair well with 175s or more later once I finally break down and do the head studs. I swore I wouldn't make big power until I address that ticking time bomb. The EGR delete and a brand new oil cooler has already been done - but I have pressure in my degas bottle 24 hours after I shut it off... I think I may have a slight gasket issue already. Oil is clean, no steam. Fingers crossed.
Anyways, recommendations on a turbo? I thought a Garret Powermax - Miles told me to stay away from Turbonetics. Opinions?
I need some advice from you. I remembered that you are the king of rattle can paint jobs. What kind of paint did you use on your tailgate and how did it hold up through the winter? How many layers of each? What grits of sand paper? My truck needs some touch ups and I think rattle can is the only way I will doing it for now. Thanks!
