I just did the gear swap in mine over the winter I bought all my stuff from Early Bronco Restoration Full Size Bronco Restoration Classic Ford Bronco Parts For Sale they are very good and will get you set up right. Pretty good pricing as well. I went from a 3.73 to a 5.38 with my 38's and i am getting about 14-15 out of my 5.4L when I am nice to it.

Not sure why but that seems to be the common ruling for cummins engines at least.
Not sure. My guess is because their big torque will be ok with 3.73. But with their low redline, I wouldn't want to be doing long hauls with 4.10s

I'd be happy to sell you my 4.10s, pending inspection.

If you want to be certain Craig, check the front axle housing.

You should see 248 upside down if you have a D60. It would be a 229 if it is a D50. Im 99% certain you have a D60.

Yeah i'd probably just go to 4.30s with a 6.0...pretty much everyone i know with a 6.0 runs 37s on 3.73s. i don't know many people who have regeared

That's what I had thought, but it's not even much of a change, and doing the math 4.88 would bring me right back to the stock gearing - so close I probably wouldn't even need the SCT to do anything. 31's with the 4.10 = 37's with the 4.88's (well, 4.89).

If I'm going to go in there and do them, I want there to be a noticeable difference. I would think that 4.30s would be sort of pointless.

I can't even imagine the poor economy and loss of torque with 3.73s...

You could always over come the gear problem by using that money to make more torque Another 200 ftlbs and you'll never know there are 37s on there

The thought did occur to me... But I swore I wouldn't go nuts with the motor until I get the studs done. And there will still be unnecessary stress on the tranny, which is bone stock. I may do a TC soon, or I may just wait to blow it up and build one on a bench at home in the interim. I thought about picking up a junk one ahead of time and rebuilding it with all the upgraded parts, then just having it on hand lol.

Don't lie to yourself lol, i said i was going to leave my truck stock because i loved it the way it was...look at it lol.

Not a bad idea picking up a junk one and rebuilding it, i want to learn about transmissions but i dont want to screw one up so i wont take it apart lol. Are they hard to work on? My 95 is grinding in reverse so there's my opportunity i guess if i really want to lol.

I rebuilt the M5OD-R1 in my Ranger. You have a M5OD-R2 which is very similar. I thought it was pretty easy. I did it with my uncle. We used seal drivers, a bearing press, bearing remover adapters, and a few bearing we notched with a cutoff wheel and then drive a punch in the cut and they pop off. Took us about 4 hours from start to finish. Got the rebuild kit off ebay.

I used these for reference when I did mine: Trans Teardown Photos by Villanmotorsports | Photobucket

^^this. Manuals are wicked easy, Automatics are a little tougher, but it's still basically stacking gears. A lot of specialty tools are required, I figured I could buy them as I need them - I never built my own arsenal, I always borrowed my father's tools (he's an automatic tranny guru, been for like 40 years lol).

I have nowhere to do it right now. We live in a 2br condo and I don't think the girlfriend wants a tranny in the spare bedroom on a bench lol. We'll be selling soon to buy a house, my one request is a garage.

Once that happens I'm sure it's DD buying time, and the truck goes way under the knife.

I basically took over my parents garage except for their ability to park lol, to them its storage space but to me its working space. That's what i did when i did my front u-joints though, i just bought the tools as i needed them either from advanced auto or amazon (i have prime so i got free 2 day shipping).

Edit: BTW thanks for the link Jeremy! I would rep you but my rep gun is out of ammo i need to fire it at some other people first lol.

You should have seen my parents' garage when I built my Mustang...

What set my mother over the edge was the fact that I was using the gas grill as a heater. She wasn't really fond of that.

One thing i hate about owning large vehicles is our garage is too small so i cant work on them in the winter lol. There is so much crap in there too that there's only 3 feet on either side which isn't enough when doors are open etc.

I have my own garage now, but SD won't fit. And it is still funny to me that my house is 25ft wide (so 25ft deep garage)... my SD is 22 ft bumper to bumper.

I buys tools as I need them. I didn't buy the tranny tools though. But for how lightly they would get used, Harbor Freight would probably suffice.

No probs on the reps. That's not why I take the time. I enjoy sharing the info and getting feedback and learning from it.

Never could use my parents garage for stuff other than spark plugs or oil changes. All had to be done outside. There just wasn't any room.

This is my sanctuary now... It's small but I am proud of it. I did add a compressor after these photos

I would love a garage, i told my GF that when we eventually get a place she can have the house I'll take the garage lol. She might have space to park but that's still up in the air
