So how have all you rebuilders fared? Any horror stories? I've done lots of other brands and types of automatics but not this one yet. 700R4's are crap IMHO.
My father in law and I are in the process of rebuilding my E4OD now, we have made a transmission stand and our own tolos thus far.... I have have been too busy at work so the going is slow but we have removed all the "guts" and are starting the process of replacing all the clutchsa, steels, bearings, bushings, etc.... I'll keep ya'll posted on the outcome. Oh yeah we got our parts from RacerX and they have been great to deal with.... rc
I can send the file to you if you like.... I'll need your email address. You'll need to purchase a rebuild book/video if you plan on rebuilding this transmission. We finished our rebuild and install yesterday.... So far everything seems to be ok.

Before I get involved in a complete rebuild I want to do a complete fluid change and the filter. After draining the torque converter and dropping the pan and changing the filter how do I flush the cooling system. I read somewhere to refill everything and pull the return line off the trans and let the new fluid push the old fluid through. Is this correct?, and which line on the E4OD is the return?
Can I request a copy of the much sought after E4OD zip file? jbfixurpc (at) gmail.com
Long story short, 91/4.9/4X4, 176K, aftermarket tranny cooler. Tranny puked alot of fluid hauling wood. Added 6 quarts to get it back on the stick. Topped her off with 2 more quarts. Worked fine for months, sloppy shifts but (1-2-3) but nothing terrible. Than a bunch of snow + deer + ditch. 4X4 Low, and about 10mins of trying to get out of a 3 foot snow bank. We'll it puked again. This time it seems to have needed 12 quarts. Now it shifts into 1st from a stop are odd, seems like its being dropped into gear (like taching up to about 1800rpm then dumping the clutch in a manual) and second is slipping like crazy, unless I am hard on the accelerator(which I am reluctant to do cause I don't wanna kill the tranny). 3+4 and Lockup seem fine. think I might have burnt the intermediate clutch pack maybe? I did end up creating a much needed tool, 1 water bottle(cut in half)+2 feet of 5/8" hose makes life much easier when refilling tranny fluid.
As well, how heavy is this unit? Looks like around 300lbs?
Thanks for any advice in advance!

I am by no means an expert with regard to transmissions, but when I added an additional cooler to mine I did the exact same thing changing the fluid. To flush the cooling portion I disconnected both of the lines at the tranny, and used a compressor to blow out the fluid from the lines. a bit messy, but seemed to make sense.
