1993 Ford F150 4.9l e4od probs

Hello I also have recently purchased a nice 1993 ford f150 4x4 with 4.9l and the infamous E4OD problem tranny. I drove it home 300 miles and only noticed a slight hard shift between 3rd and 4th gear and about a 2 second delay before reverse engages. I checked the tranny fluid and it was to full by half and inch. I took it to a local tranny shop to have it serviced (just change the fluid, filter, and pan gasket). They said it needed rebuilt and they were not going to service it because that would only make it worse. So if anyone could email me a copy of the now legendary E4OD tranny .zip file I would greatly appreciated it. Thanks in advance from me and the new beast. My email is noz151515@yahoo.com

More E4OD issues

Hello all
I have a 91 250 SC 4x4 with a 460 and e4od with 160k. Its ran grate over the years that I have had it (inherited it from an Uncle @ 110k) but whats strage is that if you disable OD the engine goes down to idle if your coasting (no compression breaking) not even if you gear it down through to 1st. but if i jump into my 95 or 03 they will compression break to some degree. Other than that the trans works great. Any thoughts? a sprag clutch missing perhaps.. dont know these tranys yet.

Thanks

Well I bought the F-350 I was looking at. Test drove it and it ran great. Got it for $3000.00. Now the transmission has began to shift hard. Took it to a trans shop I know and put it on the scanner and codes came back that torque converter was overheating and building up pressure I believe the guy said. While he was in there he reset the codes and the truck drove fine again. He did say that it would need a complete rebuild. Somewhere between $1500.00 and $2000.00 with me taking it out and reinstalling it. Before I do all that I was thinking of draining the pan and torque converter and changing the filter and refilling with new fluid and putting in some Lucas trans treatment and also making sure all the cooling lines are good and trying my luck. Trying the cheapest way first. Or do I just go straight to the rebuild. What do you think? Is the zip file still floating around? If it is could it be sent to me at scottw223@comcast.net. Thanks for everyones opinions in advanced.<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message -->

Do you still have the zip file regarding rebuild tips for the E4OD? If so, will you please send it to me? How did the other people get their email address to you without posting it directly on the forum? Thanks!

Scott,
I tried the Lucas and didn't have the results that others have had. My torque converter was done. I wasn't overheating the transmission, it just wasn't holding(shudder). I pulled the trans. and had it rebuilt, then I reinstalled it just before Christmas. Works great now. When it was taken apart, the mechanic called me and asked what codes I pulled...because, internally the trans looked "cherry", except for the clutches in the 3-4 pack (I think that's what he said)? I told him that it threw whatever code told me "Torque converter slipping", or words to that effect. I had it rebuilt because I wasn't sure if the trans. was slipping due to bad clutches, or low hydraulic pressure, so I had it rebuilt with a master rebuild kit, solenoid pack and a bunch of updates. Good luck.

Thanks for the info a roth. Not sure what the number codes were but the trans guy said that the converter was overheating. How much did your rebuild cost if you don't mind me asking.
