What is holding the filter to the factory intake tube?

well i complted mine as well. I got some 4" exhaust and hooked her on up.. that really is a huge new filter. Thanks for all your help pcwirepro. After high RPM's and when the truck downshifts it makes a staticy noise from the filter. Is that the "turbo stall" that you were talking about? i will try to get some pics posted soon. thanks again oh one more thing...the clamp on the intake tube side..did you have to suck yours all the way till it stopped(ran out of slots)? thanks

PCWIREPRO - Nothing is holding the filter. I removed the factory airbox - and stuck the big Napa filter right onto the stock rubber air below - and used the stock clamp to tighten it down. The filter is just kinda hanging their for the momment

Like i said , this is temporary , i am going to try and mount the filter somehow when i replace all the stock rubber with metal tubing this week...Doesn't seem to be a big deal. I can't see it being a restriction if the filter is resting where the factory airbox used to be , instead of being mounted.........

BTW ---> I now have a AFE filter setup for sale , email me for details......

That is what you are hearing. As far as the clamp going all the way down, no I had a little left. Did you use the same Napa part #7051538

yeah..the factory clamp.. when tightening it down onto your new piece of 4" pipe did it use all of those threads? mine went to the end of the slots and stoped there tight.. i think it is snug around the pipe, but should i replace it with a napa clamp just to be sure?

Are you sure you have your pipe seated into the factory tube? It should push in a good inch or so. Mine barely used half of the clamps slots.

I'm stumped. What is the O.D. of the pipe you used? Does it fit really tight in the filter???

yes very.. i used 4", it is VERY snug in the filter, and goes in at least one inch into the air tube. It is a snug fit, and is firmly up against the filter. I'm not worried about the seal much beacuse that clamp got tight around the air tube, just used up that whole clamp. I cant budge the tube by hand..so i am sure that it is tight enough....it is firmly sealed all the way around. By the way, ive been driving it for a good day now, and you are right..i love being able to hear the turbo.. best 40 bucks i have probably spent..thanks again, hey joeboost- howd yours turn out?

O2SUPERSTROKER -

Mine turned out very very well, for the effort I have in it so far. I just removed the stock airbox , and replaced the AFE unit I had in the truck with the Big filter, and used the stock hose clamp.

Some day this week , I am going to replace as much of the factory rubber air ducting with the 4'' piping I have layin around from my racecar exhaust. Then when that is all worked out , I am going to have it ceramic coated to stop heat soak , and keep it looking good for a long time. Once it is all said and done I will post some pics..

Just got back from a two hour each way towing adventure with the racecar , and the new filter did make a noticeable difference with off the line power , and overall performance.

I am sold !

Cool tymar comments, use this thread

Well I just installed my Tymar intake and all I can say is WOW! I immediately noticed a quicker response expecially when starting out. It sounds and looks awesome! The only question I have is, when do you change the filter? I've heard after a year, but I don't do that much driving. Anyone know the exact mileage?

Thanks
