yea i had the same question about the sensor. what is it even needed for? i just unplugged it and let it just sit there and i ran my truck today and nothig bad happened what should be done with it?
The sensor is a air intake temp. sensor , I believe.
It reads/makes changes from the temp. of the air going into the motor, with it not being so accurate due to the air going onto the intercooler , then into the motor. It can just be zip-tied becasue with the new air filter setup , you are sucking air from under the hood , exactly where the sensor is now reading from....
Is there anything special about those filters? I went to autozone and had the numbers cross referenced and came up with a filter that was in stock and $16. Are we looking for special dimensions on the air tube, size of filter??
Hi PCWIREPRO, what dealer are you referring to that is in Salt Lake City?
I want to make sure and goto the same dealer when I need any work done.
Also, you said yo have alot of the material to make the 4.5 inch section between the Napa filter and the air tube section. How can I get ahold of you to get some?
just ordered mine from napa part number 46637 which is a wix filter. Tried the part number 6637 which someone posted but they said it was a spark plug. Anyway the filter is 32.00 from NAPA which i am a little dissappointed since people are saying it is only 22.00. what is the exact part number for the 22.00 one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
On another site I saw someone post that he went to the open air "Tymar-Like" filter and he now had surge/stall. To the posters here that recommend the Tymar or other open filter: did you have this problem?
Reportedly, boost drops off and makes a noise. I don't see how increasing the amount of flow on the intake end could stall a rotor, it should be self limiting. Might be some combination of larger exhaust, chip, more fuel consumed at load and or not a problem at all, just someone's imagination. That is why I asked, any Tymar users have that problem?
I put an aftermarket compressor wheel in mine. You can also replace the compressor housing, and some folks have started modifying the Y-manifold to release some boost back into the inlet.
I dont believe this "noise" is an issue. You can hear it on a stock truck , just have to listen for it .
I would tend to disagree, when it gets bad enough that you can see the boost gauge jumping around at a steady throttle, something has got to give. Usually it's the bearings in the turbo.
I would agree that in a stock or mostly stock truck that a little psst psst psst really wont hurt it.
cookie88, if I understand you the surge potential is there already the addition of an open filter like a Tymar just let you hear it, the surge noise, more. Interesting, so there was a use for the restrictive stock filter after all, a semi-sound damper. Anyway I am going to try the Tymar when it gets here. Thanks
