You wouldn't want any silicone on the inside of the pipe coming loose and making it's way into the turbo. I would leave it out or do a quality job installing it in the pipe. I used a step-bit(a drill bit that gets larger the deeper it goes) to drill the hole 1-size at a time until it was a tight fit.

My question is , on a 2002 , will a new battery tray be needed once the stock air box assembly is removed ??? I ask this becasue it seems , and I could be mistaken , that the stock airbox also acts as a battery hold-down.....

That was my initial concern. Once I removed the top of the air cleaner assy. and the battery cover it bacame apparent that the air box actually snapped apart from the battery tray and cover. If you look at my pics you can see the battery section and the "ram air" section in tact.Pics Not sure for the 2002

I had to take a close look at it to figure it out. I found a couple of snaps on the sides that held it all together. I had to remove the battery cables to get the battery cap off momentarily. It would take me no longer than 15 min to get back to stock and you'd never know I was there.

OK, OK, I just ordered a Tymar intake. I will admit that I am still a bit confused on the issue of heat vs airflow. I was always taught that you should have cool air for your intake but the guy at Tymar say's that it's the density and the amount of air thats important. He also said that you only need to change the filter once a year. that seems a little long to me though. Does anyone know if there is somewhere where a person could view comparisons of filters against K&N. Always thought this was the best filter you could get. I'll let ya'all know how the tymar works out. thanks

Thanks, more interested in the performance than sound though. Amazes me that a stock filter gets more dirt than a K&N. Would still like to see a comparison.

You can search for the Tymar - K& N subject it comes up almost monthly. I believe one of the guys went as far as doing the oil analysis and it showed more particulate matter in the oil.

The AFE filter, close cousin to the K & N, sounds like it is a better re-usable filter than the K & N and there are a lot of guys around here that use the AFE setup. The AFE comes with a heat shield that attempts to keep the filter separated from the engine compartment air. Thought about making one for the Tymar but after talking with Dale and the need for free flowing air and the small difference in air temps that it would make, I decided not too.

The difference for me was after looking at the dirty K & N and what it would take to clean and re-oil it ... I chose the Tymar for the added bonus of ease of use....gets dirty chuck it, put a new one on ...done.

I never could make the filter fit with the stock airbox in any configuration. I removed the whole thing and just picked up an el cheapo battery tray from advanced.

Also, if you put the filter minder in the intake tube of the Tymar, the draw across it may cause the minder to read plugged all the time. It's best to do without it providing it dosen't set a light.

So the factory air restriction gauge , as well as the other sensor from the stock airbox should be zip-tied out of the way , and this will not set off any dash lights ???

Ok, Thank you for the convincing arguments; I am going with the Tymar system, or similar. I need to look in the most cost effective way of achieving that. (coz I'm broke)

So with the Intake, the Idle control idea and a couple of posts in the lubrication forum I am getting my money's worth here..

This brings on the rest of the dreaming. That is for the next thread.

Thanks guys, I would be lost without you all.

Theo.
