Yes, they are napa numbers. As far as clamping, my filter is in there rock solid just from the pressure of the intake tube pushing it against the fender. My truck is a 2000 so I was able to remove the filter box but leave the battery tray and fresh air section. This created just the right size spot for this filter. Whatever you do to secure it, make sure it is easy to change the filter. Do it , you'll love it.

Looking at my PSD I noticed that the air intake goes to the front, behind the grill and then is blocked off by plastic. Doesn't seem that much air is going to flow past this into the intake. I too have been debating on installing an intake but am thinking that if I cut the plastic piece to the same size as the intake it should serve the same purpose. I already have a K&N air filter. Am I wrong in this thinking? Could someone with more experiance give any advice?

Do a search on ""Zoodad" that is a very common mod. I haven't seen any increased performance from doing it and my exhaust temps did not go down. I have actually read reports of them going up. 10 minutes with a hole saw is all it takes. It is actually fiberglass material.

I would get rid of the K&N. The initial filtration of the K&N is only 97% when it is clean. The AFE is even lower. The numbers go up when the filter has some dirt on it, but of course there is also some added restriction when it has dirt on it. The stock Ford paper filter filters at 99.7% when clean and the Tymar setup filters 99.8% when clean. I would be hesitant to modify the stock airbox with the "zoodad" mod listed. It will increase airflow some. I would either stick with strictly a stock intake setup or go with an open element intake. With the Tymar you are taking in air from all around the filter. The temp increase at idle is typically less than 20 degrees, and when moving it is virtually the same as a "routed" air intake. The decreased restriction makes up for the 20 degree intake difference at idle as far as performance and 20 degrees is minimal to begin with.

If you get the Tymar setup you will never want another intake on your truck. If you want, you can certainly make a similar setup as some people have done. If I couldn't have replaced my stock air intake with an aftermarket intake that filters at least as well the stock filter I would not have done it at all. The Tymar gives you the best of both worlds, reduced restriction and a high level of filtration. You can either contact Tymar performance directly, or I think Ken said that the online store was getting ready to offer the intake. I don't know what the status of that is.

Kind of an interesting story ...

I was going through the same research last year. I went as far as buying a used K & N filter with custom pre-filter from a buddy. Hadn't gotten around to installing it, when I decided to go for the Tymar intake. When I went to install it, I popped the filter housing and guess what was already in there.... a K & N (silly me for not checking first...).

I installed the Tymar and could tell a difference, spooled faster and seems to run a little cooler.

Now I have two used K&N filters that I need to get rid of...

The filter minder is only mechanical. It will go away with the top half of the air box. There are no wires going to it. There is however an air temperature sensor in the bottom of the air box. Twist it out and Zip tie it up out of the way and you're laughing.

Didn't know that. I'll assume since it's one wire that it needs to be plugged (restricted) to make a ground for the light. You should just be able to leave it hanging, or you could tap the new intake and install it, but that shouldn't be neccessary.

My apologies for the misleading info. Ford stiffed me on that feature. Still shouldn't be too hard to overcome.

If you put the minder in, keep the hole in the pipe tight. You don't want any dirt getting past the grommet and the minder into the turbo.
