Theo,

I love that name.

(which truck are you referring to)

If $40.00 isn't too much look at my Pick If you are lucky enough to have the air box that separates into two sections then it is only 30 minute job.

I think I can afford $40 just about - I had two unexpected expenses that wiped me out for a while, but that should not be too much.

The truck I write about is the 1996 F450 because that is MY truck.

The other one is just the thing that has been towed a few times and goes through CMP sensors like I go through socks. I never really write anything about that one. ( I do not like to moan about things too much, and that truck is just asking for it. I think that if I don't write about it, it will go away.)

And what name do you like?

Theo

The 96 should be easy to retro-fit.

The name was Theologian (Theo)

I got my hands on some 4'' pipe , including a 45 bend from the chassis guy that built my racecar , and got my Napa filter yesterday , going to tackle this project this weekend. The only thing I am missing is a piece to go from the turbo itself to the rest of the new piping I am going to install....

I am looking for that flex-able tube - usually red - that is inforced with a thin piece of metal. I want to get rid of all the factory air ducting , and replace it with as much metal piping as possibile , but i am going to need something to go onto the turbo itself...

Any ideas ????

I found it at a local shop in SLC called Evco House of Hose. Good stuff for about $3.00/ft. It is quite thick, oil, gasoline & sunlight resistant. Not sure what it was called, I'll look at it when I get home.

You're gonna love it. Are you keeping any of the stock assy?

Stock Assy ???

Not sure what you mean by that. The truck has a AFE filter setup at the momment, which will be removed. I have the filter , and plan to run as much metal piping as possibile, but I am going to need a good piece of 4'' flexiable hose to go from the turbo to the metal piping. I have a PCV Breather mod on my truck allready , so the factory breather adapter is gone.....

Thinking about where I could get some of this hose stuff in my area.. ?????

I'm assuming he meant the stock assembly. If you are doing a "do it yourself Tymar", here's an important point to consider. The Tymar intake has a stand that it sits on so that the filter doesn't sit directly on the fender well under the hood. This assures that air can be taken in from all areas of the air filter.

You mean to tell me you've never seen a ford invoice with the word "assy" on it. Come on.

Assy = assembly
Gotcha....

I am keeping all the stock pieces so i can return to stock if the need may arise someday.

I just got back from a hour trip to the local Big Rig parts stores and no-one has this flexable piece I am in need of. I think I am going to end up calling Dale at Tymar Performance and order up this piece , as I think it comes with his kit , along with the bracket to hold the actuall filter.......

I cover my filter with a garbage bag just to be safe, spray the whole thing down with simple green then hose it down. Never had a problem.

I believe the Tymar intake pipe is also mandrel bent - so it keeps the same inside diameter through out the whole pipe.

I have decided to use the factory rubber piece that goes from the turbo itself , to the breather adapter. Then from their I am going to use the 4'' metal piping to the Napa filter. I am going to try and knock this out tomorrow due to the nice chicago weather , and I will post pics as soon as I am done.....

JoeBoost, what made you decide to ditch the AFE?

Well , I somewhat completed this project yesterday. I removed the factory airbox, luckily mine was a two piece unit so I could keep the factory battery tray , and stuck the napa filter onto the factory rubber piping. The filter needs to be re-mounted because the way it is now - the hood is a bit hard to close. I am going to tackle the metal piping sometime this week.

I decided to ditch the AFE with all the reports of how allot of dust/crap gets thru the filter. Plus , I kind of bought the AFE without doing any research , and have always been bothered with it's design.

So far , the Napa filter thing is working well......
