T444E water pump
back story..
so recently we have been having the random engine turn off issue.. so i know from the forums that a sign the CPS is starting to crap out.. its not all the time and it will do it like three times the other day when wife was driving,, GREAT!!,, and then nothing for days.. SO we are currently in Menifee CA in a thousand trail RV park for the next week or so and I figures now was the time to do the swap. ( I like so many other have a spare in the glove box.)
On the 2wd model you don't get a lot of room under the truck so i use wooden blocks for teh Rv leveling to drive up on to get me about 3-4 more inches. great so i slide under and notice the IH water pump does make this process a bit more work but not bad. I also notice the hose which being a bit long rides on the cross link steering arm which i used a thick piece of the old hose to make a nice guard..
Well upon a closer inspection i notice what looks like some fraying on the hose up by a white clip on the frame that wsa holding something else.. OH hell... this thing has been rubbing on the hose and there is almost a hole in it. (you can see the white clip in second picture just to left of hose up near the dark area.. yes that white this.. so I use my crow bar and remove that and feeling the hose can tell is thin there so off the the part store to get new on.. see pic..
apparently when I am turning and under power the hose is moving, the engine is moving so the hose get back againt the white thing rubbing..
did anyone find a shorter hose for this project??
I got the CPS replace and it fires up no problem.. now I geta get on this project as we head to sequoia NP next week and dont need to have this hose spring a dam leak pulling the grades..
I also notice the old hose section I used to protect he hose from steering arm was getting thin as well. When i change the oil i look around under check for leaks loose etc but you are not this far forward of the truck.. I have changed out the filter three times now and while i did not cut it open when i shake it into my white tub all kinds crap come flowing out of the filter.. I believe its doing some good.. I use rotella ELS so when i change out the hose it will change out a lot of the old stuff..
I will post photos from phone shortly..
I can see where the link rubs/contacts the guard a bit, but not enough to make an impression or depression on/in it.
If I ever drain the ELC, I will see if cutting a bit off either end of the hose will help. At this time and for the past 7 years it has been a non-issue
