I'm in the middle of collecting all the pieces for this swap, and I believe the IH short thermostat is the same as the OBS 94-97 one. If so, that makes it a lot easier to search for replacements and different temp settings. Can anyone verify this?
No idea if it is the same as the OBS. I went to IH, gave them an old bus VIN # (they wouldn't talk to me about parts unless I did), and I got the thermostat that was made for this pump. Something about those IH parts guys....they don't like to sell parts for Ford trucks. Almost like it is sacrilege to them or something...

It's not only them, I had similar experience when trying to get a part for a GMC pickup from a Chevy dealer. Hey, I wasn't looking for a hood ornament.
Also, a photo of the t-stat that is specifically made for this pump. Notice the gasket fits around the circumference of the t-stat and seals from both top and bottom....not just the top like the others.
Mike, in this post you show the tstat you used, is this the 205° Stant 14252 in your list, and the pdf published by F250? I bought the 195° Stant 14259 for my application (as 195° is the OE temp for our trucks), and it did not come with any gasket. Not a big concern, as the IH pump came with a regular gasket, just curious.

The OEM thermo's started coming with integrated gaskets already on the thermo several years back.

Pricey compared to OEM Motorcraft? For the $20 saved from Motorcraft to Stant, I think a little smear of RTV on the square cut rubber oring and the Riffraf housing will suffice! Thanks for the info guys.
working on the water pump replacement today and got stat at napa store, after checking 2 other places for stant 14252, which does not have the gasket attached it was separate. I checked and with the top hose piece it was higher that the flange so when i installed it i did a bead of rtv silicon around
also when i had the water pump off I unscrewed the two block plugs and using the spray handle shot water in the block on both sides for the block, letting it drain out block drain plugs a couple of times so all i need to purge is the heater core. I flushed the radiator core pushing water in top pipe into the small tube on top,
replaced top hose with around the belt, new belt, new t-stat, new stat top housing, new cat ELC , new bottom hose.
now to put water back in and do a couple more full flushes add proper amount of ELC and enjoy the new water pump.
next project later this year or maybe next 6.0 cooler and Mercon V fluid install. so many project so little time..
I have all the parts, a real pretty Ford blue painted IH waterpump, RR billet t-stat housing, hoses, clamps, coolant (Napa Precharged SCA), everything sitting in a box. Time, that's what I don't have!
And I now I finally started collecting parts to move up to the late 99+ turbo setup.
Looks good, Carl. I'm guessing you had the pump sitting around for a little while, since I see some rust on it. I ended up going with the very expensive lower hose from Dieselsite after the Gates hose kept rubbing on the tie rod no matter what I did to it. After installing the high price, custom hose, I am not convinced it isn't going to rub as well. I need to climb under and take a look now that it has been on there a few months.
SaintITC, if you need parts for the L99 setup, let me know. I can get used parts dirt cheap, and they have several "core" engines sitting there.
Thanks Mike, I found a friend of a friend here who had upgraded his with a new turbo, spider and such. All I need now are the plenums, and for those I'm thinking of the RR billet plenums.
Do you have any Time on hand? I can't find that anywhere.

Yes the pump has been in the garage for 18 months, got it off ebay for 100 buck including shipping. I did use a scotch brite pad and clean it up some. I also used scotch bite to clean up inside of water pump area on engine which did not have much debris in it.. there was more in the degas tank which i took off and cleaned out.
I took the old hose cut off a section and slit it and put around bottom hose to protect from tie rod, I used some grease to help it slide on the rod and not catch it so to speak.
I don't drive the truck much so not a big deal. maybe someone will find a good hose that is not too long and not cost a bundle.
Mike, my lower radiator hose from DieselSite was rubbing the tie rod as well. I ended up pushing the hose onto the pump and the radiator as much as I could in order to clear the tie rod.
Since snugging up the hose, there has been no rubbing between the two.
5 years and almost 100k miles, and not a drip or peep from my pump. Very happy with the upgrade to this day. Gonna toss a new thermo in it as a preventative measure. Yes, I am knocking on wood.
Now I have to hope it plays well with the steering angles and front-facing sway bar on the '07 axles going under my truck. Hoping the lower hose doesn't rub...
Sorry for the necro bump, but for you guys who have done this mod, is there a place to plumb in for an aftermarket coolant temp sender? I suppose I could use the stock sender location, but then the gauge on the dash wouldn't work and that sort of stuff bugs me. My Isspro sender is currently plugged into the base of my DieselSite coolant filter kit which would obviously be going away.
Yes, there is another spot for a temp sender of the same size. You can see it in the top photo in Carl2591's previous post; old and new on the tailgate. Just below the T-stat.
Edit: better pic, circled area is where a second sender could go.
