Steering gearbox p/n for 85 LN700

NumberDummy,
I don't have my parts manual with me here at work and am trying to figure out if a steering gearbox I've found at AAAAAutomotive is correct for my 1985 LN700.

If you could check and see what p/n is applicable for a 1985 LN700 Vin 1FDXR74N4FVA57151 I would surely appreciate it.

R74 = LN700 Diesel / F = 1985.
The part number will be Ford related.

Pic: Here's the LN applications from the truck parts catalog.

You might try Red Head Steering Gears, located in Seattle.

NumberDummy,

Thanks for the quick response-as I thought the part they have isn't correct for the 1985-I'm not even sure it is correct for the years they say it is correct for.

I'll take a look the place you've suggested-thus far the only place I've been able to source a reman from has been through a local repair shop from a Ford Authorized rebuilder back east-don't know the name at the moment.

redheadsteeringgears.com is well known on FTE, because the Ford/Saginaw P/S gearboxes used on 1965 and later cars, 1969 and later F100/350 are CRAP!

No bearings on the sector shaft, it rides directly on the housing. Before too long, fluid begins leaking from the sector shaft seal.

Red Head machines the housing, installs the needle bearings that Ford omitted...on purpose, so they could sell a gazillion sector shaft seal kits.

Auto parts store so-called "rebuilt" P/S gearboxes are nothing more than resealed gearboxes.

FoMoCo west coast authorized rebuilder: GPD (Genuine Parts Distributor), located in the City of Industry (626 area code-San Gabriel Valley) CA

Thanks alot ND
.. I tracked down the retired mechanic (well semi-retired) that fixed the steering box over a decade ago
.. he says the "seals" have went out and they don't sell a seal kit for it anymore so I guess I am stuck looking for another donor steering box?

Just because the parts are obsolete, doesn't mean that no one has them.

NAPA would probably have them, as well as other sources.

F61 = F600 2WD (gas).

D = 330 2V H/D FT engine.

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

Q60615 = 1973.

The carb should be a Holley 2V, look at the top of the carb (at the front) for a triangular shaped tag that has the carb ID number on it and post what it is.

But, by now, the tag could be missing.

Warranty Plate riveted to the left door face below the latch, has the TRANS; AXLE and etc codes stamped on it.

Bill

1967 f500 rear spring pin...

there is the one that is greasable... and the two that are just pins (Im thinking I could substitute a grade 8 bolt here)

D0HZ-5780-B ? or something similar for the greasable pin?

C2TZ5969A? or something similar for the pin?

The above numbers came from digging around..I have no idea if they are close

Thanks

NumberDummy - Could you provide any info with this:

VIN: 3FENF80Z7XMA22240

I am trying to get some wiring info to replace radio/speakers in the doors and I am also looking for some basic dash wiring for the radio/cigarette/fuses/etc... I have a dinging that keeps beeping every now and then and if I hit the glove box it goes away temporarily.

Also looking for a budget friendly scanner for it. I have scanners for standard vehicles but this looks like the diag port is a round 6 pin plugged port and maybe I just need an adapter or I need a specific tool?

please and thank you!!

The VIN is missing a digit, supposed to have 11.

F70 = F700 (gas).

D = 330 2V Heavy Duty FT engine.

C = Oakville Ontario Canada Truck Assembly Plant.

77841 is supposed to be preceded by a number or letter denoting the year.
