There was a few guys on HAMB that are doing sand casting you may want to check with them.... making two to put on the outside and keep the original on a plaque.
She's finally going back together. The doors skins are done and the regulators are installed. Interior wood installed. We started fitting all the trim pieces yesterday. I bought 500 stainless steel screws to secure all the trim and interior bed sheet metal. We should have the front doors hung later this week.
Getting closer!!!
I don't think my wife like's firetrucks much....lol. Everytime I sit down and start reading your book I only get a pragraph or two into it before the wife decides she needs my input on something....lol
But, so far so good
Thanks Guys!!! Bobby, thanks again for your support!!
I took the day off from the truck today because my son had the rod from his broken arm taken out this morning. My bodyman Gerald called this afternoon and said, "its a picture moment". Something I always say when some progress is made. Well, he got the front doors mounted by himself today. I was soo excited that I had to drive out and see them. I have to admit, I let out a loud shout YEA, YEA. My two year wait for the doors to be back on was over. They still need some tweaking but it was awesome to see them in place. I took some pics with my phone but the quality was so poor that I will take some more tomorrow and post them.
The lights and siren are awesome!!!!! Reminds of a my first ride in a fire truck. I was visiting a friend, who was also a retired firefighter and a cop. He took me to the Hall of Flame museum in Phoenix and had one of the guys there take me for a ride in one of the trucks. As we're driving down the road, he tells me to step on the switch on the floor on my side. I didn't think twice because it looked like the old style hi-beam light switch. Well, it wasn't for the hi-beams. It was for the siren. I was very surprised!
Sounds like you had a lot of fun. I have to check out that museum one day. Speaking of sirens, the truck still has it original friction siren. To operate it, you pull a string under the dash which makes the siren come in contact with a spinning pulley running off the fan belt. You can see how it works in the pictures. The siren was made by Hedberg. Most fire departments stopped using them in the early 50's. The lights are Mars made in Chicago.
As kids my friend had an old friction siren, we sure used to have a lot of fun turning our bikes upside down near a busy street and putting that siren up against the spinning tire of the bike....LOL
With fresh paint that truck will really be a stunner!

Hi Guys ... hope everyone's holidays were good!! Back to work on the truck. Getting so close now. Read door is hung and window opening is cut out. We will be using Lexan material for the window. We routered the interior portion of the window so no outside trim piece will be needed. Will make up the trim pieces tomorrow.
