Thanks for your support. My first book was finished in 2007 and I still have copies left. The books sell for $40 but for FTE members they are $25(my cost)+$5 shipping. Here is my website for the book:
Heard back from the seat company. Here is the email I received:
"Keith,
Thank you so much for contacting us and for the pictures. My father is going to love seeing these. Can you take some side and top view pictures of the seat? I would like to have them for our web site and also so I can get a better look at the fabric. We definitely do not have that material, but in exchange for all the pictures, I can probably send you a few yards of something that will work in its place."
The material he offered is not a close enough match. I will find something more like the originals.
Thats great that they responded to you, shame that they didn't have a close enough material. Maybe they can steer you in the right direction to locate something similar.
I finally remembered to place an order for your book, lifes been crazy the last couple of weeks. You should be recieving and email and a paypal payment from me.
You'll probably need 2-3 yds just to do one seat. Best to have some extra. I'd also buy a few extra yards to save in case you have a tear or damage to the seat from use after re-upholstering.
Panel Man - I think you are right. He says he has 12 yards .. I hope that will be enough to do them all and have extra.
you should check his measurements just to be sure..
3 linear yards? at 54inches wide? 1944 sq inches
or 3 square yards? 1296 sq inches.. and the material is 54 inches wide so only 24 inches long.
I would measure the existing material as a square, from fold over to fold over in both directions.. and try to place that on the piece size u select. 24x54 doesn't seem like you could get more than 1 seat and back from a piece.
Vinyl, and any other upholstery material, usually comes 54" wide. This I know from my days working in a fabric store as a teenager. I've handled and cut my fare share of upholstery material. So, I wouldn't doubt that its 54"x36" = 1 yard. It's a linear yard and not a square yard.
If it were me, I'd get all 12 yards. Maybe the seller can give you a discount.

I agree on the get all 12.. and I hate being surprised(yards).. seen a lot of shady stuff lately..
I asked him what he has and here is his response: we have two pieces of this vinyl, a 5 1/4 and a 8 5/8 yard (2 pieces)
I went to an old school uphostery shop today. He said he could match the originals and said he had some old vinyl in stock. I brought all 6 seats and he said it would be around $600-800 maybe more once everthing is apart.
$600-800 is reasonable. Does this include replacing of any springs inside? If you can get all eight seats done for $1k or less, I think you'll be fine.
I got a quote of $300 to do a pair of similar shape seats in my Panel truck.
