I've been in and out of more than a few of these trucks, but I haven't seen too many of these. Rare or just not too common here in the Midwest? Well, I tried to post it, but it is in my gallery. It is a stripper dash with ammeter and oil pressure gauges. There is a wrinkle texture plastic discs behind the bezels to make them stand out, I guess.

I'm guessing you're referring to the gauges, and not specifically to the 'wrinkle texture plastic discs behind the bezels'?
Regarding the gauges, my opinion is that they are not rare - but are not in most Slicks. The two gauges were part of the optional Camper Special package (or the buyer could delete them if desired) or the guages could be ordered as a stand alone option.
Now if the Custom Cab package option had been ordered along with the Camper Special package then the two gauges were installed on either side of the plastic car-like speedometer/gauge set - or not, if the buyer desired that they be omitted.
The confusion is associating the '64 "XL" with the '63 XL 427 drag truck. It appears these red '64 trucks with buckets ( which graybearded and elrapido mentioned) were F 100 XL's with out the "nixed for '64 427 conversion". All these DSO '64's seem to come up only in E81 (red body code).

When Garbz first sent me that piece from Detroit Steel Tubing I thought the DSO-TTMS-0004-IAC4 was, as the brochure stated, how, you ordered the interior package, now I'm back to not knowing what to think. According to the DST brochure that would get you the interior package, a 223 six & a three speed in a Custom Cab pickup. None of the six trux I'm aware of were originally six bangers! The E-81 codes out as a red bench seat interior. That would make sense if the trux were all getting red bucket seats, red carpet, and a red tank curtain. The exterior colors are two white trux, two black trux, one all red truck and as of last week one factory two tone red and white.
Triple, I think you sent me the Bostrom brochure, that's been a help we now have the Bostrom model number for the seats. All six of the trux I'm aware of have the exact same seats, the exact seat framework, and the '64 Falcon console.Three were long beds, three were short bed. Three were built in K.C., two in Lorain, OH, and one in San Jose.
DST is still in buisness I sent a copy of the '64 brochure to them and asked if they knew anything about it. I got ZIP back no response at all.

I believe your are right on track! Decifering history 50 years later is very difficult on any truck with a DSO number, but we are making progress. Regardless of the engine installed, '63 drag truck appears to be the guinney pig for the '64 DSO XL package and later the '65 RPO Ranger package. Dearborn Tubings ad recommended ordering the DSO XL package (bucket seats) with standard powertrain, only to remove them immediately for conversion to 427. If any '64 XL 427's were actually built and sold by Dearborn Tubing is a mystery. However, we now have plenty of proof Ford did sell '64 pickups with red buckets seats, console and carpeting with the DSO system. Found this piece of factory literature!
Thanks, BarnieTrk, I found the dash on one of my trips to the recycler. I have never seen those in a metal gauge pod, so I snatched it up and put it back to work. Again, thanks for the info!!

Awesome!. Second set of documentation on the 64 trucks. Can you scan the full page?
I would sure like to correspond with somebody who has a window sticker for one of these trucks. I've seen three of these trucks up close, none of them has had the Falcon seats or '63 Falcon finned style console. So if somebody has one with the interior shown in the picture in the posting above get in touch with me, if you would. Thanks!
How rare is a '66 F100 Camper Special? I know they're not common. Any opinions?
Incidentally, my CS still has what I think is the original wiring pig tail attached to the step bumper. I read earlier in this thread that it could be significant.
Also, is there any way to decipher my 66 build sheet? Thanks!

This might help with the production numbers...hehehe
