I've had good luck with paintref.com before but they aren't Ford so I'll try to find a better source if possible.

Sauterne Gold 1966 Ford Mustang - Paint Cross Reference

When an 86 year old looks you in the eye and says Sauterne Gold was the color he order the truck in I've found it would do little good to try to convince them otherwise.

Here's the handsome devil himself. Max is his name. Super nice gentleman. I picked up the original 352 long block from him, you can see it in the bed of the truck. 4 locking rim wheels (3 locking rings only). And a really nice "day one" rear bumper take-off that has the Garner Ford San Bernadino potmetal license plate bracket like the front bumper but also has an insert that says "Another delivery for Garner Ford" or something like that. I was in Stockton at 10AM yesterday morning and now sitting at work in Seattle area. That was a long drive.

Edit: I met CS65 in Tacoma and he looked at the truck for a few minutes and without committing completely he thought it looked like a genuine Ranger package. Fender badges do say Camper Special.

Here's a 1966 Ford PPG color chart that shows Sauterne Gold Poly. Not sure if that is good.

Ford used two different names for paint colors, actual and promotional.

In the original 1960/68 car parts catalog, I found this for 1966:

COLOR code Z ~ AE60-1915-A & AE60-1915-S = Medium Sage Gold Metallic, aka Sauterne Gold (Ford/Fairlane/Falcon/Mustang/Thunderbird) aka Sage Gold (Lincoln/Mercury/Comet).

Back a few posts I said

"I believe it is code Z. But I'm at a Shell somewhere between Sacramento and Redding. "

I just looked up Big M Automotive on a real computer and it says

Big M Auto is located in Williams California, about 60 miles north of Sacramento and 100 miles south of Redding.

Funny how there's really not much out there to mention in 160 miles. Other than Big M, of course.

Just across the street from Big M was an old Ford line truck sitting in a front yard.

There's a lot to see, it all depends on what you're interested in.

You whizzed right past Arbuckle, but if you had stopped, you woulda seen the site of the oldest Studebaker dealer in the world.

A. J. Atran began selling wagons in 1852, was still operating as a garage in 1972 when I stopped there and bought all their obsolete parts.

Electric Garage in Woodland is a Dodge dealer, but began selling Studebaker, Baker and Rauch & Lang electrics in 1902.

There's all sorts of museums, antique shops, gun shops, and tourist traps along the road. I've been to most of them and in 1975, stopped by Crown Motors in Redding.

I asked the partsguy if they had any obsolete parts. He showed me a dusty display case they had in the back room, inside was a complete NOS Weber setup for a 289.

Paid 100 bucks for it, sold it at Harrah's swap meet in Reno three days later for 5 GRAND. Today, it could be worth 20 GRAND or more to a Shelby nut.

That was probably a bit rhetorical on my part. On the other hand, based off of your list there, I won't venture back that way real soon.

That is if you stop editing it... hahaha

You have a legitimate Ranger, not to mention a Ranger with special paint and what appears to be the "deluxe" Camper Special package. You would think the person who ordered this truck or dealer who ordered this truck would go all out and order the power steering and power brake options as well, but I guess you can't have it all. Or can you? I guess you can add these factory options if there is no original build sheet or dealers sales invoice. What are your plans? An authentic period restoration? The lock ring wheels were part of the Camper Special package and would be correct on this truck.

Back to what I think is another rare option. The "Safety Package A" . This would give you a padded dash and visors on '61 thru '65 pickups. On '66 models the padded dash became standard.

I think I will take it back as stock as possible. I'm still finding things. I need to start a new thread for it, but here's pictures of the rear bumper for fun. It's been in his rafters for 47 years. As I started to take it down I could see it was covered with dust. and debris. And I do mean COVERED. He must have had his roof replaced at one point. I thought for sure it was going to need a re-chroming but now I'm not so sure.

I brushed the cardboard advertisement and was surprised how good of shape it was still in.

The frame was held on with two, probably original, screws and nuts but just finger tight so I didn't need any wrenches. I took the frame in and ran it under water for a bit.

Came out good so far. A little polishing and it'll literally be good as new. That's not touched up at all.

The front bumper has the original frame on it still, too. Not quite as good of condition since it's been hanging out front for all these years in the elements, but I'll work on it some.
