The first one i have seen belongs to a friend Doug in Riverside California. It's a FAKE as you well know.
I seriously wound up Bill "ND" about it being a 64 "Ranger." It isn't and never was. It was delivered from LA and Doug purchased it form the original owner.
A major argument was over the seats in Dougs 64. the XL has 63 falcon sprint buckets and console, where as Doug's truck has the bostrum's mentioned in the flyer, not mustang seats as you would find in a 65 66 ranger.
At the 2008 F100 Western Nationals truck show, Doug admitted to myself, camperspecial65, Bill W and Karl Kurtz of SoCal Galaxies that he had it made up! As I recall, you were also standing there.
The question Doug would not answer was...who made it up. I have an idea who that was, but...
The BODY code stamped on the Warranty Plate is E81, Custom Cab w/a bench seat with red crush vinyl. The Ranger nameplates within the hood side emblems were made from mylar.
If there isn't a paint code, paint it what ever '66 Ford color you want.
The paint code on vin is blank, but the paint code would have been on the DSO paperwork, both the original owner and the selling dealer had a copy of. This paperwork is likely to be long gone. Technically this truck could be painted just about any color, however it would not be wise unless this truck is 100% stripped to bare metal. I would always go with the original color you found it with, it will be in all the nooks and crannies, and in this case, it appears to be a very nice light metallic color.
I believe it is code Z. But I'm at a Shell somewhere between Sacramento and Redding.
Z = Medium Sage Gold Metallic: 1966 FoMoCo Passenger Cars. TUP (touch up paint): AE60-1915-A 3 ounce can w/brush; AE60-1915-S 5 ounce spray bomb.
AE60 = Acrylic Enamel introduced in 1960. 1925/59 FoMoCo vehicles painted DuPont Duco enamel. 1924 and earlier: FoMoCo (and every other automakers) vehicles were varnished.
Black varnish dried the quickest, why Henry once said, 'You can have any Ford any color, so long as it's black!'
Tis a long way between Sacramento & Redding. If you get a chance, swing by Big M Automotive in Williams.

There use to be kind of a running joke in the Shelby Owners Association. A Lime Gold Shelby was the one color the Club would sanction a color change on!!!
"none of these wrecks are ever going to make it on to the grass at Pebble Beach" Someone posted that sentiment recently over on S.S. Followed by "paint it whatever color suits you" Kind of makes sense to me.
