There's no harm in looking. In fact, it'll make him a more appreciative Ford owner. I'm pulling the trigger next year and I've been under all of them. Naturally I'm getting a Ford but I like to see why we are better built.
I am VERY interested in what kind of a deal I may be able to get on a 2010 truck.
The funny thing is, after 7 years of being an FTE member, as well as 3 Ford trucks, I don't think I could buy anything else simply because I firmly believe Ford builds the best truck. I also have way too much fun here on FTE!
I have to admit that after owning a 6.4L SD and driving a 380 HP 1/2-ton Toyota, I would have a rough time going back to a 310 HP 5.4L F150. Nothing against it, that's what my rental is, but I got to really enjoy towing with a large excess of power.
Sounds like you've done your homework. Based on what you already know, I think you'd be disappointed in anything other than a SD. For real work and towing anything else is a compromise.
The downside to the new SDs is the price. Replacing my truck with a similarly equipped 2011 is going to cost over $47K, which is a LOT for me to spend on a truck.
I've been thinking to myself since your incident, what would I do if forced to truck shop today. Like you, I think it is too early to get into a 2011, because of the lack of incentives as well as the unknowns of a 1st year engine. One thing that I would consider is to wait it out. We are right at 1 year before the 2012's hit the lot, and probably 9-10 months before the best incentives arrive to clear the lots. So buy an old beater for $2k and resell it for about the same price in a year. Meanwhile, stick your insurance settlement in the bank and earn some interest.
Well, it's an idea. It's not for everyone, and I'm not even sure I would do it.
Tom get the 6.7! Matt was over at my house on Sunday (we worked on his AC) and we both said you need to get one then come back to Ohio for another day of towing.

Isn't Toyota going thru a lawsuit right now much like Ford did that their vehicles aren't making as much power as advertised? Also, if I recall the Tundras are also experiencing a whole multitude of problems relative to motors blowing up and the mickey-mouse frames they're built on.
If you want to drive a fast truck go drive an SRT-10 or a Chevy with a 5.3, if you want to pull stuff get the ford. My 5.4L is only 260 horse but I know for a fact it trailers better than a Silverado and Ram... I can only imagine it lays the Tundra to shame. Tom, PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER MAN!
Nothing a little 100mph tape can't fix! Besides, a few dents here and other gives character! Now... about the truck...
Seriously, your wife is probably punishing herself more than you ever could. She's going to need a hug and some re-enforcement that you love her more than the truck.
(pssst! Use this opportunity to get an upgraded truck! )

Tom, I hear ya. I just sold my truck and I'm lost without it. i'm getting a 2011 F-150 / 250 in the spring. Not sure which yet. Still weighing wants vs. needs.
I'm very certain that if you roll into a dealer and lay down $10K and a letter from your lender saying that you can buy today, you'll get the deal you want.
You've been on this site long enough to know how it works. Be relentless my friend and go get that 2011!
