Thought I would get you guys to tell me what you can about her. Far as I can tell, everything is original except the transmission. The owner said he had the 3 speed tree shift replaced with a 4 speed floor shift when the truck was only about a yr old. The 4 speed seems to perform nicely but I would like to get the column shift to put back in it....partly for the kick of shifting on the column but mostly so that when my wife and little boy ride with me, the person in the middle isnt having their knees cracked by the shifter. Any advice on the subject of transmission swapping would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to FTE

Be aware you posted this query in the wrong forum. This is for 1961/63 F100/250 Uni's only. Uni's are 2WD Styleside pickups, have the bed welded to the cab.

Please type future questions in the 1961/66 F100 & Larger Trucks forum.

F10 = F100 2WD

J = 240 1V I-6.

K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant.

687585 = 1965, assembled May 1965.

B = Caribbean Turquoise.

L81: L = Medium Green Crush Vinyl & Medium Green Ladder Pattern Woven Plastic / 81 = 81A Standard Cab.

A = Ford type 3.03 3 Speed Manual all Syncromesh Transmission.

C2 = Spicer (Dana) 44 Rear Axle / 3.73-1 / Limited Slip / 3,300 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.

744159:

74 = Seattle WA Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.

4159 = Domestic Special Order number, your truck was ordered special by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."

Finding the correct 3 speed parts in AK will be daunting. You will need the trans, driveshaft, steering column, shift rods.

Thank you ND! I did make one mistake tho. I typo'd my consecutive number. It's actually 687485. Can you tell me what that assembly date is?

And thanks for letting me know I posted in the wrong place. Im familiar with unibodies and know that mine isnt one. It's just that as a noobie to the site, it's a little hard to know where I am and where I should be.

Thanks again sir. Your value to the users of this site and lovers of classic Fords is immeasurable!

Where in AK do you live?

Thanks again ND,

Im currently in the Palmer/Wasilla area about 50 miles North of Los Anchorage. Did some of my growing up in the Fairbanks area.

This truck spent it's life based in Fairbanks and has witnessed a lot of the state's history. It was owned by a DOT geologist who used it to travel around various blasting sites when they built the few roads we have.

I've been to Anchorage 5 times (5 AK cruises!) and to the Palmer Musk Ox ranch and the Wasilla Transportation Museum.

FTE member of this forum: arctic y block lives on Prince of Wales Island, might be able to help you in a parts search.

I don't know of any FTE member that can decode this Rating Plate and the codes stamped thereon, as it's Canadian only, not the same as US trucks.

You might try mercurypickups.com

Well I still havent been able to locate a 3.03 for my truck. There seems to be a few of these transmissions around but identifying the right one for a 65 f100 is a whole nuther story.

I was wondering if ND (or anybody out there) could help me with the correct part number. If I understand correctly, the suffix on the tranny type pertains to the tail section (such as RAT H3). Anyone know what my part number should be?

Then there is the issue of whether a particular tranny that I find will work with my bell housing. (or whether the bell housing on the found tranny will bolt to my engine. Currently there is the original 240 but Im planning to upgrade that to 300.

I see some trannies on ebay but I would hate to buy them and ship them to Alaska without being damned sure it's the right one.

I need to do something about the current tranny that's in the truck before I can do much driving. It has a T-18 4 speed that was really mickey moused in there. Appears to be mounted solid to the cross member with some old engine mounts. and there is a dinner plate sized piece of thick rubber shoved between the tranny and crossmember for some reason. Im thinking this might account for the slight vibration I get in the seat at about 40mph.

You are posting specific questions 21 pages into a thread on VIN numbers in the wrong forum for your truck. Talk about out in left field. Lol.

I'd suggest starting a new thread with your questions over in the proper forum, as your truck is not a 1961-1963 F100 Unibody.

Try over here.
