more VIN numbers
I recently bought a 1965 F100 from the original owner.
She's been in Alaska her whole life and I plan to bring it back as close to new as I can afford to do. I love looking at it but I got her to drive. So the restoration work will have to be done during our long dark winters.
Thought I would get you guys to tell me what you can about her. Far as I can tell, everything is original except the transmission. The owner said he had the 3 speed tree shift replaced with a 4 speed floor shift when the truck was only about a yr old. The 4 speed seems to perform nicely but I would like to get the column shift to put back in it....partly for the kick of shifting on the column but mostly so that when my wife and little boy ride with me, the person in the middle isnt having their knees cracked by the shifter. Any advice on the subject of transmission swapping would be greatly appreciated.

Finding the correct 3 speed parts in AK will be daunting. You will need the trans, driveshaft, steering column, shift rods.
And thanks for letting me know I posted in the wrong place. Im familiar with unibodies and know that mine isnt one. It's just that as a noobie to the site, it's a little hard to know where I am and where I should be.
Thanks again sir. Your value to the users of this site and lovers of classic Fords is immeasurable!
Where in AK do you live?
Im currently in the Palmer/Wasilla area about 50 miles North of Los Anchorage. Did some of my growing up in the Fairbanks area.
This truck spent it's life based in Fairbanks and has witnessed a lot of the state's history. It was owned by a DOT geologist who used it to travel around various blasting sites when they built the few roads we have.

I was wondering if ND (or anybody out there) could help me with the correct part number. If I understand correctly, the suffix on the tranny type pertains to the tail section (such as RAT H3). Anyone know what my part number should be?
Then there is the issue of whether a particular tranny that I find will work with my bell housing. (or whether the bell housing on the found tranny will bolt to my engine. Currently there is the original 240 but Im planning to upgrade that to 300.
I see some trannies on ebay but I would hate to buy them and ship them to Alaska without being damned sure it's the right one.
I need to do something about the current tranny that's in the truck before I can do much driving. It has a T-18 4 speed that was really mickey moused in there. Appears to be mounted solid to the cross member with some old engine mounts. and there is a dinner plate sized piece of thick rubber shoved between the tranny and crossmember for some reason. Im thinking this might account for the slight vibration I get in the seat at about 40mph.

I'd suggest starting a new thread with your questions over in the proper forum, as your truck is not a 1961-1963 F100 Unibody.
