Ya'll want tight fit? Change a Jeep Cherokee starter, lol. That was....fun. I used a cheater tool, a socket with a five-pointed base (like a nut) and a box-end wrench. Took a while to get it done since I had only a little room to work, but I got it done and everything worked perfectly.
By far, the tightest fit I've had to work with was when I replaced the exhaust donut on the Cherokee. Stuck bolts and very limited working space made for a rough evening and lots of grumbling. lol
On a more positive note, I changed the spark plugs last night on my truck. Went from Bosch SuperPlus to Motorcraft. Only took me about an hour and I didn't break ANY! I noticed a decent improvement in the way the engine runs now, but it still needs that rebuilt carb. It's still running rich enough to nearly gag me from across my front yard.
Ya'll don't know how good it made me feel to hear it running that good again. I was even able to put it in gear without it shaking and dying.
Cool Kirby, I have always had good luck with motor craft plugs.
Need to get a new carb on my 460 too.
I have rebuilt it twice and it still leaks fuel inside and out,I just need to spend $350 on a whole new carb....
I changed the head gasket on my tractor, and took a nice 50 miles trip on some back roads in my old cop car.
Someday I'll get a new carb for mine too...I'm thinking about a Holley Truck Avenger. It's like 470CFM and has a bunch of interesting off-road features. Check out the vent tube design, for example.
I'm not sure. If I had to guess, I'd say it's optimized to make power at low and mid range, so it's probably not gonna do too well on a screamer motor. As far as economy, I don't guess it'd affect it too much more than a regular four-barrel (I read in a Four Wheeler mini-article about it that it got about 2mpg less than the spreadbore carb it replaced)...most of the special features seem to be geared toward fuel control as opposed to outright performance.
I didn't think it was possible to hurt the fuel economy of a 460... I rebuilt mine (4180 carb on a 460) as well, I don't think it leaks, but I do know it isn't adjusted right. it idles high no matter what I do to the idle screw or idle mixture screws.
I've got an edelbrock 650 on my 460.I got good fuel econmy but no power, till I found the secondary's weren't opening.fixed that with an adapter plate, got my power back, but fuel econmy went back to 10 mpg.
Mine open too early, I cant go over 30 with out getting into them. I need to set it so I have 3/4 before they kick in.
I can get 12 with out them, 5 with them.
They dump so much raw fuel in....

I have a 4180 and I don't like it, Mine wont adjust right either.

10 MPG? I would be happy if I could get that. Thats 2X mine.
problem with the 4180 is the evap connections on both bowls, I switched to an edelbrock 1406, but the power was non existent and she constantly backfired under load, Edelbrock told me to use different metering rods and pink springs, that helped the backfiring but she sure had no guts. Back to the evap tubes, I thought maybe I could rip out the whole fuel vapor return system, but I didn't want to screw up the whole system. The whole emissions crud on this beast is weird, she has an air pump to inject fresh o2 for a catalytic system, but is labeled as a non-catalytic system with no cat...
Hey, did they get rid of the 1 hour limit on editing posts?
I seem to be able to edit things that I posted a few days ago...
Your right, how did you find that?lol

You should remove all the emissions stuff.
Makes it run much better.
