Awesome. I wonder if it'll make a difference on your computer?

I think the same trick works in 7 too. When I build my new computer (plans, dreams, call them what you will, I'm gonna do it...lol), I'm planning on running 7, possibly Premium. That's one of the first changes I'll make is to turn off indexing.

I haven't tested it yet, but it did clear half a gig of space on my terabyte hard drive, so that makes me happy. I'll let you know how it works out tomorrow, i'll find some old top gear episode to download haha.

Best thing on cable that you don't have to pay per view.

I was just talking with a guy about that last night. I picked up a set of E7TE's off Craigslist for $50. They were hot tanked and surfaced but have a light coating of surface rust. No freeze plugs re-installed, so they haven't been run since. IDK if they have a fresh valve job or not, but I'll probably swap to 1.90/1.60 valves anyway, although I'm going to protect the valve seats when I port them, just in case I don't.

Anyway, this was a Chevy guy and he said he has some buddies that use his garage and tools and leave their extra parts. These were going on a 347 stroker, but the guy bought a set of Edelbrock's instead. From there we started talking engine builds, parts choices and sources, and wound up talking about the Speed channel. Especially, Lou Santiago and the Old Blue Hair episodes.

@kirby (feels like twitter now...) Taking off indexing made a nice difference in the speed of the computer, I haven't gotten around to trying out a torrent yet, will do that soon though.

Yeah, except if that's the one I'm thinking about, the fake machine guns, That was kinda sissified. Shoulda been real! Not only more fun but much more practical as well. That way you could just run over an Import and shoot your way to freedom! . Sorry Bill.

That is just wrong- those things are dangerous-LOL. Seriously, I think they are more illegal than an automatic machine gun. If you have the right stuff to qualify, you can own a fully automatic weapon, but spud guns are illegal for everyone (except Mythbusters and Obama's homeboy security team).

@Josh Awesome! I don't think indexing is the cause of your problem, but as you noticed, it helps speed things up. If I had to take a guess I'd probably say it's Photoshop hogging all your memory...especially if it's a crack copy. Firefox does have memory leaks, but with four gigs of memory, you would have a hard time racking up four gigs worth of memory leaks...

I only use Photoshop on a very rare occasion. The problem is that I use Photoshop, Mozilla, iTunes, AIM, Google Chat, and god knows what else when I run it.

I am limited to using just 1 program when it comes to torrents though, i'll have to see if it works better this weekend.

If I understand you correctly, I'd have to say that maybe it's time for another torrent program...on a dual-core system, one program shouldn't hog all the CPU and memory, not unless it's something like Prime95 or something.

Have you tried Pidgin for IMing? I think it's compatible with Google chat. I know for certain it's compatible with AIM, MSN, YIM, MySpace Chat, plus a ton of other ones. It used to work with Facebook chat too, but it stopped working for some reason. O_o

Here's something just totally out there, but every now and then, something just strikes my funny bone and I feel the need to share.

There is a show on called "I was bitten". This is the second time I've seen this episode and it bugs me more now than it did the first time. There is this guy travelling with a group of students and professors and they are out in the middle of nowhere when they come across a rattlesnake over 6' long. Long story short, the guy picks it up and gets bitten.

The part I find both hilarious and aggravating at the same time is this guys account of the events.

" I reached down and grabbed it by the tail, probably the worst thing you can do....."

" the snake was really aggravated, handling an aggravated snake is probably the worst thing you can do...."

" I took my eyes off the snake for a second, probably the worst thing you can do..."

"assuming you can re-act faster than the snake can strike is probably the worst thing you can do....."

"I realized I was in a bad situation, because there were students all around me, I couldn't let the snake go for fear it would bite one of them, and I couldn't hold on for fear it would bite me...."

"I realized I was in probably the worst situation possible, bitten and miles from help..."

How about we just pare this down a bit... "I reached down and grabbed it by the tail, probably the worst thing I could do..."

-Nuff said. That WAS the absolute worst thing he could do, outside of shoving it in his pants and slapping it around.

So what was aggravating and funny to me was all this "probably the worst thing I could do" over and over. The guy thought if he could give enough examples of how so many mistakes came together to allow him to get bit, nobody would realize how idiotic it was to grab the thing in the first place. I have news for him, it wasn't the culmination of all the events that led to him getting bit, it was just one stupid move, period.

If you come across this episode in the future, pay attention and see if you don't agree with me.

I would use something else for my IMing, but I like having the separate components open, because only certain ones i like to have sound with. I used to use trillian, but I stopped that once I got this laptop.
I downloaded the new version of Bittorrent, New anti-virus, took indexing off, cleaned it up, and made it less congested in the task manager (msconfig helped) I'll test it this weekend.
