It should not take 3 hours to get a damn starter out of a truck haha

He loaned the truck to someone, who for some reason over cranked the truck (i.e turned the key to cranking position when already running) and destroyed a section of the flywheel, and at the same time wore the starter bendix down.
And over time, it got worn down to the point where he couldn't start the truck at all.
Yeah, there's the story if you missed any of it, his issues have been around for a few months, of not longer, but did not become worse until last week.

It shouldn't take long to swap a starter out. I wouldn't do it without changing the flywheel, which would take about 3 hours.

That should take 20-30 minutes at most.

Um, you know that the torn up fly wheel will just tear up the new starter, right?
( sorry, had to take the opportunity to use that

Have you ever attempted to remove one of them?
They are nothing like our trucks, there is NO room to do anything!
I don't think having airtools would have helped us much just because there was absolutely no room to maneuver around

Yes, I have.
It takes patience, but its really not that bad.
Can't get air tools in, its 1/4 drive and smaller tools only.

Yeah, well if they made them more accessible than they did, like oh idk, how our trucks are set up, this wouldn't have been an issue. Wasn't my first time working on a truck, or pulling a starter, hell, i had an easier time pulling the starter out of my Topaz.

I know, but you should try changing one on a dodge minivan.
You would love the 5.4s starter after that. lol

Eh, all I know is that the damn starters on the 10th generation F150s, 97-2003, are a pain in the *** to work on when it comes to the engines.
