Awesome. Im not planning on doing this anymore as there are other things someone in my position should be spending their money on, but one day soon when i have the funds set aside for something like this, im going to make a commonrail race truck YOU better remember all this stuff, cause i wanna do it just like you are!

We've heard this sort of talk from you before Kris
Jeremy, Make sure you contact Pete and get a filter cover for the AFE 6637.
I am sure he still has the pattern from when he made my cover. His cover for the AFE version does have the indention for the inverted cone on the end of the filter. I know he could add a DeStroked graphic for you too.
jeremy it sounds to me that your not far away at all!!! i guess its gettin bout time to take that 5 gal. yellow jug to the fuel stop and get some start up juice! i think i can already smell the fumes down here in MS. btw great job i'll get reps your way soon as i pass um around
Thanks Nick. It's a lot of extra work that's not absoutley necessary for just a conversion, but I think it will be well worth it once I'm done. I hope to have something that I'm proud of and glad to say I did myself.
Driveshaft is in now. It's been raining lightly, so I could work under the truck and not get too wet, but the rain never let up so I couldn't get anything else done. I really wanted to get the power steering hooked up tonight, but it wasn't in the cards. I've been really lucky having good weather to work on this project, so I guess a couple days of poor weather are ok.
sure hope you do..going to make your self sick..it is hard to sleep when you got some thing like this to do..its all you think about and makes for sleeping hard to do..i would be mind boggled for a few weeks as well...get some sleep is easy to say..but to do it is a differnt story.... cant wait to hear this thing prrrrrr..
Jeremy, I see in your sig that your truck is a 4X4. When you moved the transmission back and shortened the rear driveshaft, did you have to lengthen the front driveshaft or was there enough splined shaft to compensate? Just curious.
I hope you realize that the rest of us are getting excited right along with you about the initial test run of 5.9. Thanks for keeping us up to date on the progress.
Mark, he shortened the front drive shaft around 1/2".
Sounds like you need to build a shop next Jeremy. Tuff working outdoors doing this. Keep up the good work, can't wait to watch the vid of the first start up.

From what I understood, he shortened the front section of the rear driveshaft assembly, between the transfer case and the carrier bearring. I think Mark was asking about the 4x4 driveshaft from the transfer case to the front axle. That's a great question, as I didn't think of that till you asked!
Mark, There is plenty of spline left. I actually had the transmission sitting back about 1" further while I was setting the engine in place and the front shaft never came out of it's splines. There are however less splines in the slip joint now, so I don't think I would want to do a lot of heavy wheeling until I had a chance to put the lenght back in the shaft. It may not be an issue at all though. There's lots of guys with conversions who have never done a thing with their front driveshafts and they aren't breaking them. Even through drag racing and sled pulling.
Rick, I'd love to have a shop. There's even the perfect spot beside my house to build a 30'x40' shop. Until I'm done paying for the truck though, I won't be able to swing anything extra. I have no idea what it would cost me to build a shop though, but I'm thinking $12-$15K? I don't want anything fancy, just a concrete slab, 4 walls, a roof and electricity. I can do a metal sided building, so I wouldn't have to shingle and side it to match the house. Insulation would be nice, but that can come later. Pole barn, steel building, 14' ceilings so I can put a lift in later. One of these days.
Ryan is correct. The rear driveshaft was shortened overall by taking a small amount of the front portion of the rear driveshaft.
