Kinda hard to find. I would appreciate any leads. Thanks!
I have one. has a good sized dent about 7 inches long, which tore thru. Easily fixable to me. No rust on it or in it and not damaged otherwise. I think its a driver side rear. I rescued it from the recycler and paid 50 bucks for it when I got the crew cab body for my bronco.
had my new to me 75' crew delivered yesterday. Swapping out the big block for a big block, and just cleaning it up. Will decide on major changes down the road.
Hi guy's,
I just acquired my first crew cab a couple of weeks ago. I think I found a survivor, so far I have yet to find any rust and I feel very fortunate to have found it. The old beast has battle scars due to being a ranch truck but nothing too serious.
QUESTIONS:
1: The title shows it to be a 75 but on the vin tag on the door it indicates 74. Does the build date of 9/74 make it a 75?
2: Axle code 24R – I found this listed on another thread and it indicates the front axle to be a Dana44, mine has a Dana 60 with the closed knuckles. Did I misinterpret the information given, this truck is 100% original.
3: Where is the first place these old Crews rust?
Dan
I bought a 1978 Standard Cab From Northern California for repair parts. Had almost no rust like you say on visual inspection.
1.Check under the floor mats. Rotted in both cabs I have.
2. Roof Drip Rails 3 pieces of metal come together with little to no sealant.
3. Maybe not as common but I've found alot of rust in the side vent boxes. The water runs off the windshield and down into the vents in front of the hood and drains out the big square box in front of the door post. Leaves and debris get caught in that little hole by the door post.
More seam sealer seemed to be used on the 78 than 75 and as such there's way more water protection.
4. Under the door hinges theres no paint. Both cabs had significant rust underneath them on mine competely rotted on the 75 to where the plate to bolt the hinges too fell out.
5. Rear corners of the cab. Several pieces of sheet metal come together with no sealant. Traps dirt and debris at least on the 2 I've been working on.

Thank you for the insight as to where to start.
The truck was built in Canada and has spent it's entire life in the high country of Wyoming. Didn't get used in the winters due to the quanity of snow on the ranch it was at. I'm hoping this gives it a better chance to be closer to rust free.
Thanks again, can't wait to get looking.
Wow, just checked out your link on rust. Jumping from a tall bridge would be easier for me. You have a lot of patients and skill to tackle such a truck. Good luck I'll be checking in to see how your doing.
I have a 1979 F250 crewcab in reasonable condition considering it's age. 460 on propane. People are interested in buying. Do you have any thoughts as to what I should ask for on the price? I don't want to sell it for less than it's worth. It' blue and white with race track trim. Nothing removed, all original.
1978 Ford Ranger Super Cab "ORANGE CRUSH"R"
Best truck I ever had and I've had many.
Pretty much stock with a 351 auto transmission.
Starts well in the cold has GREAT heater and runs strong.
Check out my garage.
Mine doesn't have dually fenders. They are Bushwacker flares. I believe the truck had a flatbed at one time after being bought as a chassis/cab, or was a single rear wheel truck, and the dual rear end was swapped in.
LMC truck doesn't have any dually fenders listed for the year. Or I could have missed it. I can get you some pics tomorrow if you want.
I thought I saw something about VIN's starting with F35 were pickups. Mine starts with that so I guess it wasn't a factory dually? That would make sense as it has all trim and regular pickup parts.
