Today I picked up the undercover harnesses and uvc gaskets and replaced them all. Only one was burnt but I figured i'd do em all for good luck. Got it all back together and still the truck wouldnt start. I scanned it again and still no codes. Someone here said the uvc gaskets would throw a code. Im beginning to think the pcm is dead. What do you guys think?
i am not surprised that the uvc didnt fix it but am still bummed for you. does it smoke when cranking?if so then the pcm is firing the sticks....
check your fuel pressure you need somone to crank for 15 to 20 seconds, while in that time you need to check at the shrader with a tire gauge- 20 psi minimum. if thats ok then you really need a scan tool so you can do a buzz test on your injectors, that will tell if you have idm troubles or pcm issues. you also need some pid data at this point specificly pcm power, icp, ipr duty cycle, fuel pulse width, and rpm.
at this point you have already covered the basic checks and really need the scanner as i think you have a more uncommon concern, follow the procedures above and you will find the problem
also, the uvc's dont always store a memory code, when one of mine melted intermittantly i would drop serious power and the lite would come on, once it accuired the connection again the lite would go out, got home and scanned, no codes, this happened 3 times before i got ticked and pulled the cover to inspect and replaced them all(right rear was melted)
joe, I checked the fuel pressure out and it was at 30-40 psi while cranking. I was getting some exhaust while cranking. The idm, I have a spare that I know works, tried that out and with no luck. As far as scanning, I really thought the one I had worked on diesels. Where can I get one that will do all those things you mentioned? Anywhere locally?
you wotn find what you need cheap, dealers or independants will have what you need, ford's ngs cost you around 3500 for a full kit, the wds costs over 10 grand(very nice) your problem is the need for live pid data, not just pulling codes, and the ability to run live tests. most over the counter scanners are just that, a scanner. your best bet is a friend who has a shop? the injector buzz test and pid data while cranking will be your key at this point, the mechanical part is all there, fuel pressure, low oil pressure, and high pressure pump resevoir is full. the rest is electric- you said all fuses good, uvc's are new, all wires plugged in, that leaves programming that you need a diagnostic tool for
Sadly I don't know anyone who has a shop. If I hook up a scanner that will work on my truck is there something I could do that would store a code for me to find. If there wasnt a code at that point would that tell me the pcm was dead?
a no start with as much crankin as you have done should have at the very least one code in it, it is possible to have a bad pcm but that is uncommon for teh trucks, but not impossible, i would hate to tell you to replace it without the pid data, pids can tell you so much
I might be able to get a hold of one tomorrow for cheap money. Will any coded pcm from 95-97 work in my truck as long as its from an automatic? I read in an old post that a burnt and melted uvc fried a pcm on someones truck.
I don't know if your chip will work with that pcm or not. I would try starting the truck without the chip though just in case your chip was part of the problem.
Well its not the pcm. It turns out my scanner does not work on my truck. Can someone recommend one I can order thats not too expensive?
Also, anyone need a TEE5 pcm?
