Where did you find your 7041, and what gearset does it have?
Hi - I found "A-Boxes very hard to find in B.C. I Asked everyone I could think of without much luck. Finally a friend told me he new of a person off Westside Rd., between Vernon and Kelowna,, that had a burned 60's Ford tandem. The second one I found at Mountain High, a truck shop in Salmon Arm. This one was in a Chev. tandem. I removed both units myself. These were the only two I found.
The 7041's were available in one gear set only.
1st = 2.31, 2nd = 1.21, 3rd = 1.00, 4th = 0.83
Hmmm. Thanks! What models of brownies seem to be the easiest to find?
Hi again. That's a hard question to answer. Kinda depends on where you live. I think one is better off if you can find one still in a truck and take it out yourself, that way you can take everything you need, trans, mounts, shift rods, remote & drive shafts. You will notice in my pics that trans is rubber mounted and mounts are adjustable to get proper shaft angles. If not mounted properly vibrations could be a problem. What do you want to put one in and why? Where do you live? Bye for now

I've got my granddad's '48 International KB-6 sitting out in the "back 40" that I'm getting colser and closer to restoring all the time. I want to use the original Red Diamond engine, and 4 speed transmission. Problem is it's geared for 45 mph, no more. Plus, pawpaw Jimmy always complained about it's narrow powerband, and only 4 gears, leaving you having to choose between revving the engine near redline, or lugging it to death.
Biggest thing keeping me from diving into this project is time, money, and availibility of parts in my area.

Hi again. Sounds like maybe a good candidate to put an "A"- box into. I'm not familiar with old IH trucks. About what size would a KB-6 be, 1/2 ton, 1 ton, 2 ton or what?
KB-6 Is a 2 ton. IH's ratings were much (if not exactly) the same as Ford's F-Series of the era.
KB-1= 1/2 ton
KB-2= 3/4 ton
KB-3= 1 ton
KB-4= 1 1/4 ton
KB-5= 1 1/2 ton
KB-6= 2 ton
KB-7= 2 1-2 ton
They went all the way on up to a KB-12, if I've heard correctly. I talked to a guy at the Portland IN Tri-State Tractor & Engine Show and Swap Meet this past August who had a KB-10. His was outfitted much like a single axle tractor with a 5th weel, and saddle tanks. I think his had 22.5" Budd wheels too, but I'm not sure. My KB-6 has the tank inside the cab, and 20" stud-pilot, split-rim wheels.
Hi again Sounds like a KB-6 would be about the same size or a bit heavier than my Merc. C-500. the truck I put the 7041 into in the above pics. With your combination I believe an "A" box would work well. One with about a .73 over would probably be better than the 7041, would be a bit faster. A 3spd. would work as well as a 4spd. as you don't use 1st. in a 4spd. very often anyway.
I have a 3spd. "A"-box from an IH. Believe it was in about a 64 V-Liner tandem but not sure. It is a very heavy unit, much heavier than 7041. Would sell it for $100.00 but don't think it would go well in a KB-6. I think it is .73 over but to heavy. A 6031 or 6041 Spicer would probably be best I think. Will need to study this a bit more. If I goofed will let you know here. Bye for now
