Yep...looks like mine yet mine says its a 41M1 if memory serves. Seems to be an over-straight-under of around 25% eother way. My front "seal" leaks and it appears maybe its not a seal...rather some sort of packing material. Whee!
yes!! its the smallest once ove come accross it,s perfect for a 1ton i dought il even have to move the exhaust
mine has / had a front seal leak too
i realy need some picture of your shifters and your linkages so i canget a rough idea for what i need. i have acces to a couple factory brownie shift towers but their off the muuch larger units, i asume they will work.
I know this is a Ford forum, and I have an F250 that I drive every day. But today I have a question about an old Dodge aux. trans I have
I just picked up a 1947 Dodge 1.5 ton truck and it has an aux trans. The tag on the side says
Watson, Brown Lipe, Spicer
Model M42
Ser# 013054
It looks similar to the photos of the 39 m1 on the bottom of page 14
It appears to be a 3 speed, any idea of the ratios.
Main trans is a 4 speed behind a 230" flat 6. Main trans has a dual direction PTO also.
I got some pics to post, yeah.
Now keep in mind that the last time this truck was registered was 1963, and it was new in '47
The aux trans was installed after market, the cut out a cross member and moved it, and relocated the fuel tank outside the frame on passenger side.
Wow, Great thread. I have a 2001 Ford F-650 with a 26' box. The truck tops out at 61 MPH at 2800 Rpm. Has the Allison 545 4 Speed Transmission with 4.11 gears. I was wondering if there is a Spicer or Brownie unit I could use in my truck? GVWR is 26k pounds. Any help would be appreciated.

roland 13 i wouldnt sugest anything this old for your truck these are more of a toy than somethign to be worked hard everyday
i also found out the ratios on my 39-m1 its 2:1 1:1 and 30% overdrive give or take when spinning the input 4 times the output spins exactly 5-1/4 times

I see old spicer 5831's on ebay and craigslist often, I don't know why that wouldn't work fine in a newer truck, it should be plenty strong shouldn't it? I definitely wouldn't run something ancient and small like my Watson 43 in a new (powerful) truck though
